Thanks to Matt R for sending this in – the title says it all. In an interview with MCV magazine, Atari president Phil Harrison said outright that he wants to make Activision-Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick regret dumping Terminal Reality’s Ghostbusters video game. There’s a reason to pre-order if I ever heard one.
“What Bobby, perhaps unhelpfully said, was that those games were franchises which wouldn’t make $100m of revenue and generate sequels.
“If that’s his benchmark, then fine – and we’d love to aspire to the same benchmarks. But you know what? I would love to turn Ghostbusters into a $100m franchise, just to prove him wrong.”
here’s hopping next year that you guys really stick it to activision.

I really hope they do stick it to activision…if its one thing I myself love doing its proving people wrong just to shove it back in their face in every aspect possible. It truly is an exciting time for Ghostbusters fans, and will continue as long as things are done right. Cant wait for June 2009…WHO YA GONNA CALL?!

All Four Baby! I only own an Xbox. But I know some great kids with the other platforms; I’ll play a late Santa and donate the other games.
Personally I think this game was never going to be the cash cow that Activision were craving but SFW? I cannot believe that Activision have become so shameless that they would actually ADMIT that making mindless sequels on a yearly basis is all they care about now.
Could Ghostbusters have become a yearly Activision event? I certainly hope not or we would’ve ended up with crappy, rushed sequels that we all would be powerless to resist anyway cause it was Ghostbusters.
Can Ghostbusters bring in that kind of revenue? Probably not, but is that really the end of the world Activision? It was always going to make money you short-sighted, narrow minded pigs but did it really HAVE to bring you $100M in revenue? If you’re going to survive in the long-term you are going to have to take some creative risks sometime without worrying so much about the short term-profit! Guitar Hero isn’t going to be a slam dunk forever..

i plan on buying the wii, ds, and xbox version. xbox only because there is the ability to swap out the game music for my own. it will be awesome to bust some ghosts to my favorite tunes.
Looks like I’m the only one who’s going to get it for Wii, Xbox360, and PC only. Atari has always been a winner of a company with smart brains. Activision.. sorry but you’ve lost your brains somewhere back in the 90s. XD

A $100m franchise eh? Cool. If they make it a series, Atari will do a better job and make it worthwhile, whereas Activision would release the same game every year with add-ons. And I’d be sucker enough to buy it.

Getting the PS2 and PC versions – assuming the PC version is NOT crippled with the DRM and “additional software requirements” that GTAIV for the PC has.
Atari would do a major solid with PC gamers if they don’t put any DRM in the Ghostbusters PC game. DRM is pointless anyway. Those who pirate WILL do so anyway, no matter if there’s DRM or not. DRM only hurts the legitimate buyers of a product.
