I’ve got nothing to say, other than go look. Oh, and where’s Winston? (be warned, the site is slow to load today, for obvious reasons.) Thanks to Matt and Jason for the link.
[UPDATE] The display plaque says the figures are due Fall 2009, which contradicts the official announcement a few days ago, that had them coming out June-August. For now, the official text trumps tradeshow signs that may have been made months ago.

wow; they definitely did a great job w/ Slimer (one of the more overrated characters, IMO). Can’t wait to see what they do w/ Stay Puft!!
Wow! all i can say is these look fantastic! the ones of Ray and Egon look obviously articulated, (I.E. you can see the elbow joints) While the other looks to be a real cloth suit and slightly more detailed.
I also can’t wait to see what they do with Staypuft, as i liked what neca did, but i want the smily face of my beloved Staypuft (He’s so happy to destroy you!)
They all look fantastic!!!
Looks great. Venkman’s boots are wrong though. Am I being too picky?
That’s Ray…and yes
That’s it, I’m buying.
Oh, and… where can I buy those ?
There’s an earlier news item on the figures that has more info on where to get the 12″ figures.
The 6″ figures may or may not be available through general toy outlets, and the Minimates will be available at specialty (nee comic) shops.
Thank you lord, they’re articulated! If DCUC is anything to go by, they’ll have the double hinge joint in t-cut joint! Also, it looks like the base of the neck is ball-jointed and ball-jointed at the head. Nice!
So let’s see:
Ball-joint neck – 1
Ball-joint shoulder – 2
Swivel/ball-joint elbow – 4
Swivel hands – 2
Swivel waist – 1
Double jointed t-cut – 2
Swivel thigh – 2
Hinge knee – 2
Hinge ankle – 2
That’s 20 points of articulation just for the prototype body. Plus we could be getting interchangable hands. (gloved/non-gloved) The only nitpick would be no ab-crunch but I’ll take these without question.
Of course, these are just prototypes and anything can change before they’re put out. I’m just glad they’re coming out in the fall rather than June. *Whew*!
…sorry if I went a little overboard there.
And now the bad news: It looks the 6-inchers are a MattyCollector-exclusive too.
I’m going to set up a tent in front of MattyCollector’s website until they get released.
I’m not that interested in these. But, why in the world would they leave out Winston?
I would expect this a little more in the 80s when they left him out of the video games. But, now? Seriously?
Winston and Peter are both absent. Why? Not because they’re not being made. They did say only a few prototypes would be on display.
I’m not certain, but I assumed the figure on the right, wearing the ecto goggles was supposed to be Venkman. It’s hard to tell, as the heads aren’t killer likenesses (which may have been part of the deal.)
I’m surprised nobody commented that the display says that they’re out fall 2009.
I’m glad they’re coming out in the fall rather than June. That means I’ll have time to save up more money by the time they’re available.
And guys, the plastic ones are the 6-inch figures, just doubled up. The one with the cloth jumpsuit is the real 12-inch figure.
Also, Peter and Winston are most likely still being made. Its perfectly normal not to have every prototype ready for a convention.
Someone said I guess the two big sculpted ones are scaled 2up to give an idea to what the 6 inch figs will look like/articulation and the 12 inch one will have the cloth suit and the whole deal.
I’m inclined to rank the official press text that went out over the tradeshow signage, in terms of valid dates, until someone says otherwise – just because those signs were likely prepped weeks back, but the PR went out two days ago. Could still be Fall, but until we hear otherwise…
hey folks, i have video footage of these figures that i will post in a few days that was shot in HD so get ready for that!
Here’s hoping it is this summer…well no rush but was giving us something else to look forward to this summer
“I’m not certain, but I assumed the figure on the right, wearing the ecto goggles was supposed to be Venkman.”
The cheekbones and lips are different from the Stantz one. I don’t know, it looks like Venkman to me, too.
“And guys, the plastic ones are the 6-inch figures, just doubled up. The one with the cloth jumpsuit is the real 12-inch figure.”
Aha. They’re not from the same line. So, Mattel probably isn’t racist after all.
Hey guys, just to confirm, the figure with the cloth jumpsuit on the far right is Stantz again, not Venkman. I was there today and was able to read the nametag. I’ll be posting my pictures (and probably sending them out to Chris as well), and I think I got one where you can read the nametag.
Nice – yeah, not seeing the nametag was a pain. So, no Venkman and no Winston on display. Oh well.
Great pics… this is what us, the ghostheads, deserved from time ago.
And I don´t care it those are articulated… I won´t open the blisters.
Fall 2009, time for selling a kidney… anyone interested?
Mattel being the company known for Barbie, probably didn’t go out of their way to make sure likeness was perfect on the 12 inch figures, so I’ll probably pass on them (though it will be hard). Those 6 Inch prototypes of Spengler, Stanz, and Slimer are fricken awesome though! 4 Horsemen have done it again!
These are awesome! I’m all over it!
Were there any prototypes of the RGB stuff they mentioned in the press release? Probably not — I’m sure there would be photos, otherwise.
I’m hoping for decent Samhain and Boogieman figures…
6″ – $20
12″ – $60
The 12″ character of Stantz had the Proton Pack, originally, upside down. The figures were set on-display by the four horsemen personally. Someone made an oopsie!
Don’t worry, a certain Ghostbuster fan from England and lives in New Jersey had them fix the error.
And speaking of errors – the folks at the Mattel booth are interested in hearing from those who see inacurracies with the figures. Even though they are prototypes – all the input helps.
Depending on when the cast signs off on the figures – they will be released 1 at a time. The first to be released will be Slimer.
The prototypes are just that – they have not been signed off by any cast member or Sony. Tidbit – Sony did NOT want Mattel to have the figures on display at NYCC… but Mattel convinced them otherwise.
Well, after seeing those wonderful toys, I can only complain on a couple major issues: why limited? Isn’t the Elmer Bernstein limited score insulting enough? Don’t they think they could sell over a couple millions of these things?
And if Slimer is overrated, Dana Barrett is definitely the most underrated character and usually forgotten one… it’s sad really…
I have the He-Man and Skeletor figures from MattyCollector.com and am avid fan of the DC Universe lines. There is no doubt in my mind that I will discover an infinite amount of glee from these figures.
I hope these figures are not too much of a limited release. It would be a shame if we could not all get a set. Especially given how long we’ve waited for figures of this quality. I was half hoping that I would walk in to my local Target and see them on the shelves! That would be awesome – just like the re-release of the original Ninja Turtles action figures in the last couple of weeks… I nearly shat myself over those!
sucks for the mexican dude who was chargin $350.00 a pop!
WHY, why would the 6″ figures be exclusive to a website? I think the small figures have the potential to sell very well in specialty stores, like music stores and comicbook shops… hell, maybe even in toy stores. If the 6″ figures end up going only to the matty collector website I’m going to cry.
Can someone prove me wrong that the bodies are the exact same for the 6″ sculpts- hands, boots, chests, etc. Looking at various screen shots, Egon and Ray seem to be the same height with the same veins on their hands and same wrinkles in their costumes. What a rip off. Egon should be taller and Ray shorter. NECA put out the Ninja Turtles and sculpted four different bodies so each turtle was unique. Granted, these are just prototypes, but that needs to be changed! However, I guess to rebutt my own argument, NECA’s two terror dogs were the exact same sculpts except the horns…sigh…
Yea you should argue about the size of eachones dick cuz its just as relevant. What is wrong with you people we wait so long to get anything like this it finally comes and people are gonna start complaining? Shut upppppppppppppppp
Yeah, it looks like the bodies are the same just different heads. Kind of sucks but I have no problem with it for the 6″ figures. The 12″ figure though, better have different bodies. Especially if they’re going to be $60 a pop.
