Master Replica, which pulled down all materials related to their announced line of Ghostbuster props, is now dropping the line all together.
As a fan, I wish I could reassure everyone that GB is still on for MR. Unfortunately, it is with deep regret that MR has decided to cancel the plans we had with Sony for Ghostbusters. While I cannot get into specifics, I can tell you on a personal level that we cannot afford to give Ghostbusters prop replicas the justice and treatment they deserve and I apologize for any frustration or disappointment this will cause any fans. Rather than hold on to the license and wait for what seemed inevitable, we’ve decided to make the announcement today. Thank you for your understanding.
If you were one of many people who asked, “just how much would a replica proton pack cost?”, you might have your answer.
This is a shame, but companies need to make money, and there’s no doubt about it, making replica props that would measure up to all the incredible fan replicas out there, and generate the required profit, was always a long shot, if not impossible. It was nice to dream the impossible dream, at least for awhile. Thanks to Shades for the heads up.
So disappointing.
Oh well… at least there’s a slew of new GB goods this year… the new figs, the game, the movies in blu, and even more… With the props, this would have been a ridiculously expensive year for us fans. 
Maybe we’ll see the props happen in the future…

Seriously, I don’t think it was necessarily cost. I think it’s the fact that 90% of what our community is composed of now are a bunch of ingrates who act worse than Trekkies.
If anyone complains, you have nobody to blame other than yourselves. This could have been something fun.
Well, harsh, but to the point.
However, companies don’t get to the prototype phase and shut it down because of fan whinging.
Money. Always the money.
Agreed this was shut down only because the economy suck , and sucks hard right now, and the cost to both the manufacturer and the consumer probably would have negated any sales worth their time. Its a shame but not a surprise. Oh well, more fun to make them yourselves anyway I think : )
Sad news… I did dreamed of wearing a real prop of the proton charging in my back.
I´ll have to build my own proton pack by myself
i knew once i heard the sales prices were so low that this project was going to dissapear. it cost way more to produce such an accurate product. my pack cost over 2000$ to be as close to accurate as possible.
that stinks.. i was looking forward to their stuff.. i’ve seen what they’ve done for star trek and i was hoping the same for gb.. stinking economy.
maybe someday i’ll build or get a pack until then it’s just a dream. this isn’t my first experience with a company getting my hopes up with an announced product then canceling them out and dashing my hopes and most certainly won’t be the last.
I don’t know why they had to go all out with a proton pack anyway. I mean, it would be great, but I think fans would have been equally excited with just a P.K.E. meter, or something!
A sad but inevitable outcome. I had wondered how they would pull a full size 1:1 pack off at a sellable price!
Oh well, that’s more dough I can spend on something else!
As a Trekkie since ‘66, and a Ghosthead since ‘84,I would like to advise Matt not to throw too many stones. Only the names change. The obsession stays the same.
The dropping of the GB line is just as well. It costs enough to build one yourself. I’m sure the proposed price tag on the pack alone is staggering.
The 5552368.com website is still up, but there was never much there anyway other than a four question quiz, which gives the press release as a prize.
i have a 5 year old who bought the games for ds and playstation and bought the costume but he wants everything that the ghostbusters wear and this is a shame, they start with all this and quit????try to tell a 5 year old there no pke meter to buy ect……we don’t have much money but let me tell you he is spoiled and if it were out there believe you me we would have it.
