Mr. Hough has sent in an article from Cinema Blend that claims Production Weekly, a film trade magazine, available only through expensive subscription, has listed Ghostbusters 3 in the latest issue (#650, March 5th). More interesting is that while no surprise actors are listed as attached, the listing does say Apatow Productions is attached. I’m not willing to shell out $60 to confirm, but the Production Weekly website does list that this issue does include Ghostbusters 3 as a listing. This is not the same as an official announcement from Sony/Columbia that production is greenlit – it’s possible that this listing is only included because Aykroyd, Ramis and Columbia have all confirmed that a script has been commissioned, and the Apatow connection has long been a rumour. Production Weekly may have some insight into that, but none that Cinema Blend (who presumably saw the issue) read, so for the time being this is encouraging, but still not final confirmation.
If anybody is going to pass this along to AICN or similar, please make a point of including a link to Proton Charging this time. Thanks.

whoops, I just posted about this on gbfans Chris and then I saw you had it too, I will make a link to you in that post. Sorry about that. : )
My understanding of this is that if it is printed in this film trade, then more than a few people have privately confirmed that a production is in the works. Hollywood is a shallow place but they hate to waste print. lol
Don’t worry about it Dave. My concern is people sending PC articles to other sites, sans links. You didn’t send a PC article to GBFans.
Well, this is getting interesting.
If I don’t see “Patrick Approved”, well, need I go on?
This is very exciting, however Aykroyd insist in passing the torch to a new generation… Thats lame THEY are the Ghostbusters, not Apatow’s friends such as Mclovin, Seth and others, they are funny but they are not the GB we wanna see.
Maybe this has been clarified elsewhere, but WHO is Patrick? and whys his stamp matter? Im not questioning validity of credentials, Im just curious as to WHAT they are?
OK, so who do I have to kill in order to document this process in Hi-Def Video? I’d LOVE to be making a mini fan documentary on this movie, considering the fans are one reason why GB 3 has been talked about for the last 10 years ;o)
I’m buying a new HD Broadcast quality camcorder to boot, so perfect timing
.
Awesome! I know the idea is not too popular but I really like the idea of comedy heroes of yesteryear teaming up with comedy heroes of today! I can really see people such as Seth Rogen being in this. If I was any of the cast members of the Apatow movies I would be calling my agent now and begging to be in this!
Time will tell!
Oh and Anthony, Patrick is/was a Ghostbusters fan who posted nothing but comments about how Ghostbusters 3 was coming out – it is NOT a credential! Actually, he quite annoyed many on the boards and here. It was a little before my time as a regular to PC so I don’t personally have any beef with him (actually, I quite respect his passion to the genre.) But even so, things got quite heated between Patrick and other “high up” members of our community. Many “F” Bombs dropped.
I too like the idea of fresh talent working on GB3! The last thing I want is another GB2; no offense to those that love GB2.
Actually Apatow Productions has been attached since the Eisenberg/Stupnitski announcement…
But the fact that it’s appearing in Production Weekly means that they’re looking to start crewing… so it has that going for it, which is nice.
Ah so the Patrick Approved bit is just almost a friendly joke?
Well whatever, if theyre crewing for this movie, it has to lend credence of the game playing a factor in interest driving the films green light. Theyre getting ready it seems, at least.
And while I realize that getting up in arms over Rogen and co. vs. No Rogen and co. is foolish at this point, because no one has said ANYTHING about their direct involvement (Apatow aside).
I would like to say that as long as the end result FEELS like genuine Ghostbusters… I dont care if Eminem takes the lead role. My whole issue with new people on the reigns is that it will veer too far from what Ghostbusters IS/WAS into something thats more todays genre. My only fear is that whoever is involved tries to make THEIR movie, not the subjects movie. I dont want to see (trying to stress hierarchy) JUDD APATOW’S ghostbusers. However I would be totally content to see GHOSTBUSTERS directed by Judd Apatow. Anyone follow me? So again, as long as the end result is to make a Ghostbusters movie, not an Apatow movie… Im content.
In the meantime though, Im just going to wait and see. And Ill say again, Ill likely see anything that hits the screen regardless, I mean face it, we all would. If its got the logo, the packs, the ghosts — were there.
I didn’t know who Apatow was, so I went to Wiki and searched. I hate half of his movies and Love half, which is wierd. I know that Pineapple express gives me a feel that those kind of characters hold something in common with GB. Everyone has their Dream team for the new guys, if new guys step in.
I’d love to see Ben Stiller, Downey Jr., Jack Black and Mos Def, well at least Jack Black and Mos Def. (they earned it in “be kind rewind”)
Anyways, Like it was said earlier on here, I care about the film having that GB Feel, Eminem or not (that was funny, i have to admit Anthony).
I don’t mind a “passing the torch” movie, so long as the originals are in it. I can understand at thier ages they don’t want the stress and strain of an action gig.
They can always do camoes in later sequels as well, and if the ghostbusters HAD been around all these years, odds are they would be thinking of retireing as well.
Actually that’d be interesting.. Janine and Lewis’s daughter doing Janine’s old job, Lewis being their financial advisor, Peck disgrundling as a liason to the city, it could work.
This will be a disaster.
Unfortunately, an Apatow movie will mean it’s a stoner and sex comedy. It’s cool if you’re into the that kinda thing. I’m not! And I don’t wanna go see a stoner/sex Ghostbusters with a bunch of stoners and teeny boppers thinking its the best thing ever, better than the original.
calm down guys……Aykroyd, Ramis and Murray are involved in it…Aykroyd and Ramis are on the script with The Office’s Duo and Murray has agreed only if the script will be very good…so no stone-comedy and no Gb2 route! And remember that t
hey still own the rights! I don’t think that they’ll let Apatow and Co. ruin the franchise!
No stoner jokes but Ghostbusters has had sex jokes.
Supposly this months issue of vanity fair he confirms his producing Gb3
No matter what, people will love it, others will hate it. It won’t live up to what you remember from your youth, nothing does. 20 years from now, there will be people our age that love what ever the new incarnation is. I think we should appreciate that they are doing this, and it seems are trying to put something out good for the fans.
“Below the Line” also lists “Ghostbusters 3″ as being in Active Development. Apatow Productions is listed, as is Ocean Pictures (Ramis’ company) and Montecito (Reitman’s company). It was last modified on Dec. 3rd, 2008. The plot description on the site reads:
“A ragtag group of paranormal researchers reopen their notorious ghost removal service.”
Below the Line is also a subscription service.
I always look at it this way, look at the movies Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Dan Aykroyd were doing before Ghostbusters. Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Trading Places, etc. What did those movies have in them? Sex and drugs were in a lot of those movies. Hell, even Ghostbusters was filled with sexual innuendos.
I personally see the Apatow group a lot like Aykroyd and Ramis of the 80’s in some respects. But that is just my OPINION, so please don’t bite my head off for it.
As long as it’s what Anthony said, and it’s Ghostbusters 3 presented by Apatow Productions instead of Judd Apatow’s Ghostbusters, I don’t care who’s in it. Just give me a genuine Ghostbusters experience.
I completely agree the Apatow group is a lot more like the early SNL/Ramis era group (Including SCTV). MUCH more so then the 90’s SNL/horrible Happy Madison crowd that we could have got stuck with.
Lou between Apatow and Aykroyd I wouldn’t be surprised if Adam Sandler was involved in some capacity. Just sayin’.
Dear Apatow Haters,
You are not allowed to continue whining until you’ve watched every episode of Freaks and Geeks.
If you want to bitch after that, fine.
Love,
Net
I agree with Troy. Freaks and Geeks is the bestest. Apatow is a good guy.
Hey, I dont hate on Apatow. Nor do I hate on Pizza, I love it. But if I ate pizza everyday, well you get my drift. Not to blow what will look like a ” I Know More than You” horn (im not I promise) but I remember Apatow from his stand-up days in the early 90’s. And damn he was HILARIOUS.
I stand by my point of Ghostbusters dir. Judd Apatow versus JUDD APATOW’s ghostbusters…
Well… Based on the fact that Dan, Bill and Harold pretty much own the franchise, I doubt they’d let anything slide without their approval.
I’d be more worried about George Lucas showing up on set and making all of the Ghostbusters hide in a refrigerator (Yes… Apparently ghosts can’t get into lead-lined refrigerators.) Or have some Prarie Dog ghosts show up to run around and be cute…
Or wait!
Maybe they’ll get a Tree Swinging Greaser Ghost to join forces with them, who will actually bust ghosts himself. And then just for the hell of it, at the end of the movie Venkman will marry Dana, and as they are exiting Venkman will hand a Ghost Trap to Seth Rogen, but will then then quickly snag it back (as the audience laughs at the “inside” joke about passing the torch down)
and then…. just to throw some references to some other movies the group may have some involvement with, David Duchovny, Orlando Jones and Stifler will show up looking for aliens… Only to find out they are on the wrong set!
Oh I can’t wait! GEORGE LUCAS FOR THE WIN!
There’s your worst case scenario
Look Ghostbusters 3 is going to happen in 2010. How many times do I have to repeat myself? Dan Aykroyd said himself that GB3 will be happening and it says on many Information posts that Production will start in the Fall of 2009 for a 2010 release. Even Ray Parker Jr. knows that GB3 is happening but he hasn’t been confirmed to do the music for GB3. I’m hoping that he will do a new song for the GB3 movie. How much more Info. do you need? RPJR said that it’s happening and it is. GB3 will be here in 2010 and see I had the proof all along and you guys had Nothing!
