I hate all news that’s released on April 1st. Just… bleh. But regardless of my unease, this would be an expensive collection of sculpts just for a joke.
Matty Collector’s, the online only source for a number of specialty Mattel items, including the upcoming 12 inch and 6 inch Ghostbusters figures, has posted images of their 2009 SDCC exclusives – included is a 6 inch work-soiled Egon and Slimer on a stand.
[UPDATE] From Mattel’s own press release on the matter;
Yes, all of the action figure exclusives will be sold online after the show (ideally that Monday, but it is too far off right now to tell) on Mattycollector.com.

This is a SDCC exclusive…meaning it wont be available to buy anywhere else? if that’s the case I’m getting my tickets to SDCC now!!
Typically, they’re only available at SDCC, though often a few will appear on eBay. Some exclusives are made available way later through specialty stores, but that’s if they have extras. SDCC if the only safe bet, thus far.
Egon’s face seems weird compared to the ComicCon pics we’ve seen…
What I wonder is why in the hell can’t they make these available to own everywhere? Haven’t 25 years of enduring fans taught them anything yet?
Well, it kind of ruins the exclusiveness if they make it available to everyone. Remember, this is an arrangement between the makers of the figures (who get coverage of the toys out of it) and the con organizers (who can offer attendees something nobody else can get.)
It does suck that we can’t get it, but then, that’s kind of the point. We can’t go, then we don’t get. Simple as that.
HEHEHEHE. I’m already going to Comic-Con, so I’ll just make sure to bring a little more money!
Back in the 80s I had just about every Real Ghostbusters kenner figure, every book, comic, poster, t shirt and every other bit of merchandise there was.
In the 90s I then managed to collect almost everything of extreme Ghostbusters.
I gave all my Real Ghostbusters stuff away though about ten years ago because I moved out and no longer had the space. I still have the Extreme Ghostbusters stuff which I will be putting on ebay soon.
I used to be a collector of anything and everything Ghostbusters but I’m not going to buy these new figures. Toys just seem to take up way too much space plus, unlike a dvd or game, their entertainment value is pretty short.
It’s just dvds, games, books and cds now.
I also forgot to add that I for one don’t think the figures are even that good.
If they were accurate lifelike clay replicas made to a high standard I may think of buying but certainly not these.
“New figures will be available each month only on MattyCollector.com!”
In my opinion, this is a letdown.
I no longer by anything and everything just because it has the Ghostbusters name on it.
The only stuff I buy now is stuff that’s of a high quality made to a truly high standard.
These figures are a no.
If the He-Man classics line is any standard to compare too, these figures are going to be high quality. I’m definitely going to be in line early on preview night to get a few of these and the mini-mates.
Don’t worry, these will be high quality! I’ve been collecting the MOTUC series so far and it’s one of the BEST toy lines I’ve ever owned. If the Ghostbusters figures are half as good as the MOTUC then they will still be brilliant!!
I seriously cannot wait!
Hi,
as a collector of Mattel´s Masters Classics I can tell you, that their exclusives from San Diego last year “King Grayskull” and from New York this year “Faker” were both available in later months on MattyCollector.
So don´t worry. I can´t imagine them doing a Ghostbusters line without Egon being available at normal terms.
Greetings from Germany
Markus
I wonder if it is a SDCC exclusives just because he is slimed.
Slimed Egon? When did that ever happen?
I’d rather see an exclusive like Egon in GB2 gear with the Vigo painting. Or Louis Tully as a Ghostbuster with Slimer with buss driver hat on. You know, an exclusive that would actually make sense? =P
I think it’s funny that Slimer has the Doomseeker stand from Mattel’s 2002 MOTU Tri-Klops figure. Let’s hear it for reusable toy parts.
Cool!
Only problem is how the hell do us poor ghostheads in th UK get our hands on them? Can anybody going SDCC pick me one up please!!!

I agree with you 100%. About two years ago I finally bought some of the NECA figures and that large Ecto-1 die cast. This was about two years after they were released. I’m not entirely sure why I bought them because they sit (still mint in box/on card) in a box on a high shelf with what little remnants of GB toys I still have from when I was a kid – and the free EGB toys I got from BKN’s online contests 12 years ago (remember those?).
Egon and slimer will both be available on mattels website after SDCC. Last year they offered their con exclusives on the site the Monday after the con. How can anyone say that these don’t look high quality!? They look amazing. They wanted to offer Peter with slimer as the first figure, but apparently Murry is asking for several face sculpts to choose from… What’s with the complaint about Egon having slime on his uniform, it’s not like he’s drenched like Peter was, he’s just dirty from bustin! I’ve wanted movie figures with likenesses for years and I’m certaintly not going to complain about these as good as they look.

Well that’s the thing. Slimed Peter Venkman with Slimer would be an awesome exclusive because it was a great scene. But pairing a slimed Egon with a transluscent Slimer just seems very random to me.
It may be a little random, but if they waited for Murry to finalize his face sculpt, and offered him first with Slimer (the first ghost they designed), people would be complaining that they were taking longer to come out. Guess you just can’t please some people. I mean so what if Peter comes with say, the librarian? Are you really going to say, you know, I want Egon, Peter, Slimer, and the librarian, but I don’t like how they’re paired, so I’m not going to get them…
