Thanks to cooperative shop owners across the continent and a little semantic loophole wherein retailers aren’t allowed to sell the Ghostbusters video game until Tuesday, June 16th… but not specifically when on the 16th, thus making it possible to open up the tills at 12:01AM and selling game to anyone willing to stay up late Monday night.

Well, that bites. With approximately 30 people, minimum, planning to attend an evening of prizes and playing the game, GameStop head office couldn’t figure out a way to send extra copies to the event, meaning nobody that didn’t pre-order, could pick up the game at the event. Effectively, killing the event. Nice. Still, the GameStop manager at that location was awesome, and Proton Charging’s big event is June 20th at The Rio. Sorry, Vancouver, the midnight game release just wasn’t meant to be.
Lewisville, TX – GameStop #688
The restored Ecto-1 will be on hand, and likely some of the lads from Terminal Reality that worked on the game. Ernie Hudson will be visiting local shops throughout the day Tuesday, but will not be at the Midnight party.
[UPDATE] – Store Location corrected! 40 members of Terminal Reality will be in attendance, as will 20 Ghostbusters from Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and possibly Arizona! Media will be in attendance and GS is working to ship extra copies to the store, so there will hopefully be lots of copies for walk-ins!
[UPDATE] Ernie Hudson has had to remain in New York and will not be able to attend the release day appearances. This is disappointing, I know, but both Ernie and the various organizers worked hard to make it happen, and bad luck got in the way. It was a nice try regardless!

Jon, a demo CD, not a CD of the demo. For starters, you can’t put an Xbox game on a CD. We just don’t know what it’s a demo of, hence the vagueness – music? trailers? If anyone can get a Wal-Mart to tell them, please let us know.
Just on a sidenote, all gamestops currently have the game in stock since tues. Kinda sucks.. but it is a beautiful sight seeing them all packed nicely in a box ready to go ; )

Very sad! I hate living in small town America not only do I have an Idiot Gamestop store manager. I also have to wait until 10 A.M. to pick-up my copy of the game. I’ve been very sad all day long. What kind of CD is Walmart giving out? Demos or something else? Why a demo if you’re buying the game? Why a demo before the 24th?
Anyway, cool. Something in NC? Well, I’m in Winston Salem, NC myself. I don’t know of any “parties” but I was going to humor myself and go in full flightsuit to pick up my copy of the game midnight at the new Gamestop in the parking lot of the new Walmart on 150/Peter’s Creek Parkway. People living in the area will know where that’s at. There’s no reason to head out unless you also pre-ordered there though. Since this isn’t a party I see no reason to bother Castewar with it, but if anyone reading the credits is in that area and just so happened to pre-order there – awesome. Gray, flightsuit or not, won’t be accompanying me, I’m sure, though. He lives in Thomasville now and pre-ordered elsewhere.

The cd being given away at walmart is actually an audio cd that has 3 tracks that can already get on the original soundtrack. and it is only for the first 10 people to buy the game. I know this cause a walmart employee showed me the sheet that atari gave walmart about the deal.
The Gamestop in Brookline MA is going to be open at midnight, no word on any events though.
