Mark Randel, CEO of Terminal Reality, is featured in an Intel ad in this month’s issue of Game Developer Magazine. A charming ad over all, the big boss is seen wearing a uniform, wielding a proton pack, and sporting a funky amount of slime, care of the Slimer from the video game. The best part is that the uniform (and presumably the pack) belongs to one of the Dallas Ghostbusters, who lent themselves and their gear to the making of the game – you can tell if you compare the name tags.
Terminal Reality head mugs Dallas Ghostbuster for photoshoot

There’s an article up on the Intel site that I think is related to this. They also have a nifty banner image for it featuring the Slimer seen in that ad.
Some mom and pop game store in Newark, NJ started selling Ghostbusters today…I have been playing it since 8:30…and it has to be the greatest thing I have ever played in my life…hands down 2009 Game of the Year
Good. This game deserves all the advertisment it can get. Since not even 1 commercial on the TV, at least that I’ve seen or hear from people around here… I hope it gets people more interested and back to their childhood!
It’s Thiago’s jumpsuit alright. The pack and belt belong to Dallas Ghostbuster, Matthew Ham. I think they also used a trap in the photo shoot that belonged to Dallas Ghostbuster, Andrew Miller.
why are they called the Dallas Ghostbusters? They are just a few fans who made some gear, right? I’m just confused why they seem to be “famous” for this.
Because they’re the Ghostbusters team in Dallas? It’s not so much that they’re famous, as they’re the ones that called dibs on being the prop building, costume wearing team in Dallas first. They’re out there, they participate in the community, so they’re known, and their current claim to fame is that they were brought in to help record sound for the game (we had a video clip of it here on the site, in conjunction with TWiG.)
Terminal Reality is in Dallas area, so obviously, who they gonna call?
I wouldn’t be as blase as to say that they’re “just” a few fans who made some gear. Making the gear is no easy process, which is why they can call themselves the Dallas Ghostbusters and there aren’t five other groups fighting for the same title.
Oh. Kay. Just asking only because you seem to be able to find proton packs, traps, and all that stuff on ebay pretty easily. It would seem dozens upon dozens of people have made these things.
@Patrick L.
You post ‘Some mom and pop game store’… which one?
Patrick L. won’t respond….for obvious reasons!
I wouldn’t.
XD
@njukgb,
It was called Newark Video Game World or something…but I ended up getting one of the last copies…they won’t get more ’till either saturday 6/13…or the actual launch date
EctoDeath is right, the suit belongs to GBFreek83 and the pack and Belt are mine. Ive still got some green slime on the splitflex. I think it looks kool.
Thats one other thing i have to agree with castewar on. Everything that he said is infact true in case you dont know there are ghostbusters “franchises” all over the usa and we just so happen to be fortunate enough to be right where the game was getting made at so they called us and we were more than happy to help obviously. Fame? We didnt ask for and honestly i dont think we are famous so to speak but its nice to be well known for having be involved in something that we all love and hold dearly to our hearts. Its no easy task making out props and such so in a lot of ways all the hard work it took to make all that stuff payed off in a way. We are all proud to be The Dallas Ghostbusters.
Mills, that’s true, though that’s a fairly recent phenomenon, the sales on eBay – at least, in the amount you see lately. In previous years, built packs were uncommon, and auctions on them were rare. There are easily dozens and dozens of people who have built them, but there are thousands of cities and towns with fans in them.
To give you an idea, there are supposed to be 20 gear wearing fans going to the Dallas midnight sale, and they are coming from four different states. So, the packs aren’t a dime a dozen. They’re either hundreds of dollars or hundreds of hours.
And Mark Randel’s Tears for Fears haircut makes me giggle.
I’m all about fan prop collecting, I do that with horror memorobilia, so I do think owning a replica proton pack is the cats pajamas. I’d have one right now if I could afford it (and if I could stop buying so many damn Transformer toys), but I mean…if I did have one I probably wouldn’t say I was a member of the Ghostbusters – Pennsylvania branch. I guess that’s just me. I don’t see the qualifications there to make you a Ghostbuster. Reminds me of when I was 8 years old and tried to start a Monster Squad club. I mean, I give major credit for anyone with the skill to put together those kinds of prop replicas, that’s seriously awesome, but in my mind that doesn’t make you a Ghostbuster – it makes you an “expert prop replica maker”. That’s also why I give a thumbs down to this passing the torch BS in a new movie. I’d tell Seth Rogen that wearing a proton pack doesn’t automatically make you a Ghostbuster. There’s only one Indy, there’s only one Rambo, and there’s only four Ghostbusters (+ Louis).
Anyways, the costume itself is awesome and it’s cool you were able to help with the game.
That is just one persons opinion but things change and you cant have everything stay the same forever sadly. Your right there is only 1 indy and 1 rambo and just throwing this one in only 4 turtles but ghostbusters is unique in that the story allows for there to be growth. Your right putting on a costume and slapping together a low rate fan site specific to your region of the world doesnt make you a ghostbuster, having a real proton pack and being able to catch real ghosts would make you a real ghostbuster. We dont claim to be anything more than we are. We are a fan group/propbuilders who have fun preteninding to be ghostbusters not only for our enjoyment but the enjoyment of others and thats what truely matters. You could say the same thing to the 501st there not real storm troopers same thing with the jedi’s. Bottom line is its something we love and this particular story gives room to grow and doesnt have to focus on just the main gb’s anymore. I didnt agree with indy having a kid but he does and just like that we may end up with a brand new team/branches of ghostbusters because thats what the creators want. Everything that is in the game has been approved by dan so that makes it solid. Peter mayhew of star wars fame got a call from steve sansweet a while back and told him that in one of the books that had been released chewbacca got killed and mayhew’s reply was well if lucas didnt write it then it didnt happen. Same thing applys here. If dan wants branches of ghostbusters thats what he gets cause its his baby. We have only contributed to that. Not to become famus which i dont think we are but because we enjoy it and there is nothing wrong with that and hey, dan likes it when the fans get into it. This is the last thing i will say on the matter. We were fortunate enough to meet Ivan reitman in L.A during e3 and some one asked him what was it like to see us all dressed up in gb gear and he said when he got out of his car and saw us dressed that way it made him feel like the first time he saw dan and harold and bill walk on set in gear it gave him that kind of rush again and he loved that gb could still stand on its own and inspire that 25 years later. That is the highest compliment ive ever gotten as a ghostbuster or in your case a ghostbusters fan. Whatever you wanna call it prop builder fan obsessive no lifer with to much free time. We are the Dallas Ghostbusters and we’re proud of it
.
If i came off rude that wasnt my intention but i guess what Ivan said kinda made you feel at home and movie or not we’re apart of the ghostbusters family just like any other gb fan group.
Well as long as you know you are not reall ghostbusters then I guess its alright. I own a ninja turtles costume but I don’t think I’m actually a continuation of the story. The turtle that turned man like. They’d call me insane… they’d call me crazy…
Thanks for the review! Looking forward to the game, tho not the biggest fan of the controls as thats why I don’t buy many first/third person shooters. (I perfer 2d platforms and 2d shootemups).
Ok honestly Im not in the best mood and things are catching up with me so im gonna be blunt its a fan group if we as well any other fan group want to feel like we are a continuation of the story then just leave it alone we know we’re not for real but we can pretend which is all it is. Of course its ok to do what we do just let it go.
oops wrong thread with that comment with me.
As for the Dallas Ghostbusters, Cool for them. Like already noted, it takes lots of time and money to get all that gear made. I don’t agree however that your a bigger fan for it, as being a fan doesn’t mean money alone. I enjoy watching the cartoons and movies all the time, I have people annoyed that I am once again watching Ghostbusters, and working on Ghostbusters Wiki and reading and watching videos. I have actually lost friends over Ghostbusters. lol
If i recall correctly no one said that we were bigger fans. No one on my team is claiming to be, man this has turnd from a something that i am proud of into a total buzz kill. We are who we are we’re fans just like the rest of you us having gear doesnt mean we’re anybetter than anyone we have just been fortunate to be involved in the game and that means something to all of us sucks that the rest of the fandom couldnt have been involved because the creators would have loved it. We were in the right place at the right time. We were fortunate thats all there is to it. Nothing anyone can say can take away the bad ass time we have had while being fortunate enough to be somewhat involved I thank those who have been nice enough to leave compliments and appreciate your support, to the rest…..have a nice day.
I didn’t mean to take the moment away, Its cool you got to do this. It just seems that lately everyone on here expects that only a fan has a full suit, proton pack and trap. I’m sorry the best I got is a old toy proton pack that is blue and wont fit my back. I find that the GB forums have become “Whos the biggest and best Fan” thing. I annoys me.
A fan is not messured by the amount of memorablia he/she has they are fans because they enjoy said thing. In this case ghostbusters. Im a batman fan huge batman fan but i dont own any costume stuff or movie props. My team and I arnt like that. Its like i said earlyer we’re very fortunate to have been as involved as we have been. Did our props help us in that aspect? Yes of course they did but we dont think we’re better than anyone by any means.
See, here’s my dilemnia. If someone is a huge fan of Ghostbusters, I don’t see how they could possibly support this idea of getting replacements and having the old ones retire. I say this because any true fan knows that the reason Ghostbusters is such a great film and so beloved is because of the chemistry between the four guys. It’s their characters that make Ghostbusters what it is. I find too often people think Ghostbusters is just a job title or something. “Well, firemen retire and pass the torch…” Um, I don’t think firemen pass any kind of torches, and I don’t see the Ghostbusters doing that either. Even if they did, that is just something I have no interest in seeing because Extreme Ghostbusters sucked. And I often find that alot of the people who are very supportive of this idea are the kinds of people who think they could be a Ghostbuster themselves. They want to see Seth Rogen in the role cuz they can relate to him, and therefor they also could be a Ghostbuster. See, I’m one of those fans that can admit I could never be a Ghostbuster. Hell, I shouldn’t ever be a Ghostbuster, because I’m not Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, or Ernie Hudson. They are the only Ghostbusters. I think it’s awesome that you guys got to help with the game, seriously – I’d never bash that. I’d never have any reason to bash that. But what’s stopping me, or really anybody else from just all of a sudden saying “Oh, well now Im a Ghostbuster too.”
I think this game will be amazing, and I’m very gung ho about it because it’s exactly what people have been wanting to see in a third film since 1989. Just because there is a new recruit in the film doesn’t take away from the Ghostbusters themselves, because of the fact he’s nameless and characterless. It’s more like a Ghostbusters simulator, rather than actually adding a new character on the team, and I support that. I wish Terminal Reality was in charge of the film as well, since they seem like actual fans and didn’t want to step on any of the toes of the original Ghostbusters. Sony Pictures can kiss my ass for essentially screwing over Aykroyd when it came to writing the script, and I’m willing to bet they aren’t going to let Reitman direct either, rather instead hand it over to Judd Apatow (cuz he’s on the Sony payroll already).
Mills its great that you can share your opinion but who are you to question how much of a fan some one is? Honestly this is just starting to come off like a serious case of jelousy and im not the only one who thinks so. I’d love to be a ghostbuster (in a movie or real life) but that doesnt mean id actually be cut out for it. It seems to me your looking way to far into this and making a big deal out of nothing and really just trying to ruine it (being involved with the game and supporting the idea for the passing the tourch idea)for everyone else. Seriously whatever happend just saying “hey congrats man” and not trying to say “well just because you did this doesnt mean your a ghostbuster you just a fan that got lucky and probly not even a real fan at that cause Bill Dan Harold and Ernie are the only gb’s” All your doing is trying to bring down the good spirit and like i said before you cant and wont take that away from anyone who is and was involved in this so just stop.
One last thing there shouldnt be a delemma Ive been a fan of ghostbusters since i was 4 years old. Im 25 now and im still a huge fan but as an actor/writer i can see room for the story to grow. Am I trying to replace the originals? No because you just cant do that. They are the ghostbusters and they always will be. If Lucas said ok we’re gonna make a new star wars movie and han is gonna fall inlove with lando i would support that, is it because im gay? No Im not gay I have a loving wife, but I would support it because its what the creators wanted. I may not be happy with it but im not going to sit there and just not accept it because im in some kind of denile that things cant change. Things change and thats all there is to it. As a fan i dont see how anyone can sit there and NOT be open to the possibility of there being a new team on any scale. Anything that is written dan and harold and even Ivan have to approve before a new movie can go into production. As Ivan told us at the blue ray screening ” there are lots of people that have to ok lots of things before this movie can happen” He is one of them. If you were trying to get me upset about this you’ve done a pretty decent job saddly im letting this get to me when I shouldnt but honestly past this point if i respond it will only be because i choose to. Times change and things get passed on if they make GB3 and they end up passing the tourch to a new generation and your not intrested because you dont think they should, save your money and go rent goonies or something dont waist it. If it happens it happens you can be apposed to it all you want but thats not gonna change anything. No one is gonna make you watch gb3 if it comes to pass.
See, here’s the funny thing. It started out as “Hey check it out, the TRi guys are borrowing fan made replicas for a photoshoot!” and then it somehow became a fight about who’s a bigger fan and I can’t even believe that ttop33 even felt the need to remind us that we aren’t “real” ghostbusters. DUH! It’s a movie, we’re fans of it, we were lucky enough to be involved in the making of the video game, THAT’S ALL. Nowhere did we ever clame to be bigger or better fans or EVEN famous or “real” ghostbusters because of it. It’d be hilarious that EctoGlow had to argue with you guys about it if it wasn’t so sad that you guys seriously posted the ill-informed opinions that you did.
Thank you so much for that EctoDeath I obviously couldnt have said that any better than you did because I was starting to get really frustrated with the entire thing. You heard it here folks EctoDeath hit it right on the money and it only confirms what I said about jelousy. Even though you guys are saying congrats i wouldnt knock you guys for getting be involved you turn right around and add in the buts. Example “Congrats guys good job on being involved but remember this is all fake and your not real ghostbusters.” Any and all who are on some kind of trip trying to ruine this for everyone involved….get over yourselves.
I love Ghostbusters, because it is the most positive thing in my life and it has been that way since I was a kid growing up. I am a real person and I am proud to say that I am a member of the Dallas Ghostbusters. I never dreamed of having such a wonderful opportunity to meet Dan Aykroyd in person. I have always been a huge fan of Mr. Aykroyd and I admire all of his work. It all really was a dream come true and nobody can take away the memories I have of growining up to be a Real Ghostbuster. I am also proud to say that I am a firefighter, I graduated from the Fire Academy class 36 and I stand ready to help my fellow man.
Wow, geez, and here I thought I offered a pretty casual discussion. Noone is getting heated up here except for you. I even proof read what I was saying to make sure it sounded reasonable. Take a chill pill.
You guys helping with the game has nothing to do with this arguement at all. For real, it doesn’t. And this has nothing to do with any kind of “jealousy”. It’s actually kind of typical you would say that; it’s very defensive. At least on my end, this topic wasn’t even started because of the game, rather I discovered there’s a group of kids out there calling themselves Ghostbusters because they own prop replicas. Hence why I asked the question “whats stopping anyone else from calling themselves Ghostbusters as well?”. Also, this has nothing to do with who is the bigger fan. I’m giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and saying we’re all on an even playing field in terms of fandom (you kind of have to, to be fair), which is why it’s really… different that a certain group is actually saying they ARE Ghostbusters. Basically, how does Ghostbusters cosplay make you a Ghostbuster? You already answered that, I guess, but I never ment you called yourself that because you worked on the game at all.
And the discussion about the movie isn’t directly tied into this, I was just giving my opinion on that as well. I don’t see why you can’t have a reasonable debate or discussion about possible new Ghostbusters instead of resorting to “well then don’t see it if you don’t like it.”
On my end it came off as rude. Granted not all of my comments were not directed at you. We are not kids we are adults. In my case a short temerd one and I admit that. There is not one person in our group that is under 21. I understand that you read your comment before you posted it but obviosly im not the only one that saw it as rude. I do believe you didnt mean it to be however. But my statement still stands if you dont think a thrid gb movie is gonna be good you dont have to watch it. Thats up to you and its your opinion i respect that. As far as calling myself a ghostbuster goes, I’ll call myself a turky sandwich if i want if i dress like a turky sandwich while im wearing that costume i represent that so there for I am a turky sandwich. Samething when im wearting the gb costume i am a gb while i have it on. Doesnt mean i chase ghosts or that Im an actor from the movie it means I am representing gb. I have a super sentai costume and when I wear that im representing zyuranger ergo I am dragon ranger while i have that suit on. It doesnt mean can jump really high of call on giant robots. Its a costume its a hobby and this hobby took us somewhere and im glad it did. Ive got nothing more to say on the matter. I didnt want there to be an argument there never should have been write or wrong my opinion still stands Im sorry you dont see things the same way or that you though I came off like i was attacking you because I wasnt trying to.
Wow my spelling was horrible in that last post. Sorry about that.
I don’t see how jealousy factors into it. I personally am a giant fan of ghostbusters. Do I want to pretend to be one in my spare time? No… what would be the point? I cant really bust ghosts and the ghostbusters universe is something entirely different then this one. I had fun playing dress up and catching ghosts when I was a preteen. I also dabbled in fighting space aliens and saving the world from monsters. I personally wouldn’t want a proton pack unless it worked. I don’t feel like standing around with a blinking piece of plastic yelling bang bang at invisible entities. Although I’m probably just commenting out of jealousy. See me and my friends cant hang out in my tree house like you cool dudes. My dad tore it down when I was 15. And I didn’t start any of this I was simply commenting.
Now about passing the torch nonsense. Gb 1 and 2 were great films. But not everything needs to descend from generation to generation. I enjoyed watching those ghostbusters. I wouldn’t be too stoked to see this franchise whored out simply because it can be and there is a gimmick that can be thrown in. If we’re going to finish off the trilogy with the ghostbusters then do it. If they are going to try and force the concept into some fluffy unimportant series for the sake of making handmedowns then lets not do it. You don’t see the sistine chapel being redone to please the kiddies of this generation. Why not let great films be great films, there is no reason to try and make everything for everybody.
Well, Mills and ttop33, you guys keep reverting back to the same arguments so let’s address that a bit more directly. We never called ourselves bigger fans than anyone else because of what we do, so that argument of yours is invalid. We’ve never gone out to “yell bang at invisible entities” so that argument is also invalid. We just wear the gear to promote the franchise, to get other people to smile, and to show off the stuff we’ve made. Does that make us bigger fans? Hell no, it just means that’s the way we show our love for the franchise. Does it make us real ghostbusters? Hell no, it just shows people that we love the franchise. People call us “The Dallas Ghostbusters” because that’s what our group is called. It’s just a title, no more official than the 501st Storm Trooper Legion. So why is this such an issue with you guys?
As for the passing the torch stuff, yeah it’s getting stale and it in many ways will never be as good as the original, but it’s just what Hollywood does with franchises. We’ve seen them run great ideas into the ground by stretching them too far, but as fellow Ghostbusters fans, I’m sure you have to agree that no matter what they do in the future, we will always love the Ghostbusters that we grew up with and that first sparked our interest in the franchise.
LOL WOW ok ttop whatever you want to say. I stand by what I said. You have done nothing but insult us for getting to be involved with the game and the promotion for it and the only reason we got to do that was because of “playing dress up”. Playing dress up got gave us the privilage of helping with the some of the sound effects in the game (i.e the running sounds the pack moving around or being bumped) getting to focus test the game during the “being cancelled period” Which it never was. And even getting to go to E3 for atari to promote the game. Getting to ride in ecto 1 and even meeting the director himself. So if “playing dress up” Is something preteens do or people with no life then count me in because its already had a huge effect in what i want to do with my life thats. Everytime you say what you think about our hobby and what we do you prove my point of jelousy. You can continue to insult us on what we do and our hobby but it only proves what I’ve said before. Everytime you insult us for “playing dress up” you insult every single person on this site and others as well. We didnt get into this to be rewarded for anything but because we are dedicated fans and good at making the props we make we got lucky and its helped us all in the long run. I do believe you are a dedicated fan and honestly as far as your opinion on passing the tourch thats you opinion and your entitled to it. I dont care about your opinion. Thats all you man.
In all honesty I think you and one other person here are from the ohio team wouldnt suprise me there the only other people who have bashed us for being as involved as we have been. Bottom line if i wanna go around thinking im a freakin ninja turtle I will and balls to your opinion because it just flat doesnt matter. Im done Ive said my piece have a nice day.
