Talking to TV Squad about a variety of things, the topic turned to Ghostbusters 3, and while it has previously been said she would be involved, she is now not as certain.
So, you won’t be appearing in the movie?
No, I don’t expect to have anything to do with it, although I wish them well.
There’s way more than that, but that about sums it up – it should be pointed out for the conclusionally jumpy, Weaver does not say it is certain she wouldn’t be in the second sequel for Ghostbusters, but rather that she doesn’t think there will be. As the script writers hand in their first draft, and then everyone gets a crack at it, it’s not impossible that she will make at least a cameo, provided the movie actually goes into production. We’ll find out in good time.
Thanks to Daryn for the heads up.

That’s a bit disappointing, However she is not needed for a good ghostbusters movie. As long as all 4 ghostbusters and Janine are in it, I’ll be a happy camper.
As long they’re going with the “new team” story, I’m not really looking forward to a third film.
This doesn’t worry me. Besides, enough money crosses enough palms, almost anyone would and could do it… maybe except Moranis. Time will tell.
Hey, I’ve got faith in these guys to put forth a great movie. They care about doing the franchise justice just as much as we do, “new team” story or not.
Even if they decide against it, I don’t think I’ll mind. But with this revived Ghostbusters love, a lil’ somethin’ somethin’ wouldn’t be bad. Perhaps a new cartoon series at least.
And considering how much fun the Ghostbusters game was, it’s possible to do it without Weaver or Moranis.
Is it very possible that this is taken the wrong way. I mean, I read it a while back and thuoght the same thing. She doesn’t want to be in it maybe. However it says here that she doesn’t “ecpect” to have anything to do with it. Is it possible she hasn’t even read the script yet and really doesn’t know if her charcter is involved yet. Maybe she only assumes, based on how well the new game seemed to go without her. She’s down playing herself basically. Let’s wait and see, I just don’t think she knows yet.
NO GB3
I’m willing to bet that this isn’t an indication that she wouldn’t like to be involved if given the opportunity. Bill Murray’s willingness to be involved is keeping me confident that if this is made, it’ll be good (seeing as how he doesn’t want to be associated with another GB2 – apologies to GB2 fans).
I hope every time they go to write a draft it bursts into flames. The game was awesome, but the script was a bit sub-par. I expect a third movie with the original guys in the background would be even less good, pardon my English.
She’ll probably laugh in our faces like usual and like she did to Terminal Reality when they approached her and then if Murray signs on for GB3, she’ll come crawling back after the screenplay is finished, just like with the game. She’ll just drag the movie down anyway.
What I can’t understand is why she seems so optimistic about starring in so many Alien sequels instead. Anyway, without Dana Barret and the new team being lead by Oscar, well, anything and anyone can happen. I don’t mind a new team, but the thought of Oscar heading up that team was sounding much better to me. It feels more natural. Heck, after playing the game I feel that, were it a movie made in 1991, it would have been a true wrapping up of a GB trilogy since it wraps up the Gozer/Ivo Shandor thing and explains where Vigo got his slime, thus tying in GB2. Had Sigourney Weaver participated she’d likely have been revealed to be, well, you know Illysa’s connection explained in the game, so that would have at least explained why Gozer and Vigo kept targeting Dana and Oscar.
That’s too bad though. We could still have a great GB3, but I don’t think it’d feel right as a conclusion and wrapping up of the original 4 boys without Dana Barret. Heck, maybe if Bill Murray suddenly pulls out they can just claim he married Dana and the three of them moved to the opposite coast to get the heck away, ha ha ha… But if GB3 does pan out (with Bill Murray in it of course), can they and how will it feel if they still have Oscar but without his mother?
This makes me very upset! Sigourney is my #1 Favorite actress and now she’s making me madder! Last December she heard about Ghostbusters 3 and she said that she wants to be in it. Dan Aykroyd said that she will be in GB3 and now she changes her mind. Why? I don’t get that. I was very Happy when her name was on the GB3 Imdb. I’m sure that the writers from the office made her a lead role in the film. Not a Cameo. Now her Son Oscar from GB2 might be a new trainer as a GB in GB3. His Mom Dana won’t be in the third film. I’m sure that Dan is upset with this because he said in past reports that Sigourney will be in GB3 and now this. It’s going to be her fault for not being in Ghostbusters 3 because it’s going to be a Really Great movie. We have to see what happens next.
This movie is hopefully not going to get made. New Team idea is killing it. Not to mention the talentless hacks who wrote year one are writing it. What possible chance does it have?
The GB3 movie is still going to be made. The Original GB’s will be in GB3 Training a new team to help them out. Why don’t you want GB3 to be made? Are you a GB Fan or what? Every GB Fan wants a GB3 and it’s going to be made and it’s coming in 2012 with or without Sigourney Weaver! She said in an Interview that there all are in it. It’s coming in 2012!! The Writers from the Office will write a Great GB3 script for Ghostbusters 3!
I’m NOT taking this as concrete fact that she won’t be in it. She currently doesn’t “expect” to be a part of it. That’s like saying I don’t “expect” to win the lottery tomorrow.
But if the script’s good and the incentive is strong enough, she’ll be in it, guaranteed.
For so many years, EVERYONE has begged for a third movie with the attempts of first born children and left nuts, then when they finally do say that they are donig a third movie EVERYONE turns arond and says screw it if they are going to do the passing the torch idea. these guys are getting too old to be doing this stuff anymore and that is the only thing to do because they are trying to keep ghostbusters alive so it could be enjoyed for generations, if they did it without the passing torch idea then ghostbusters would cease to exist after 2012
No, no, no! I really DO want Ghostbusters 3! I’m even okay with the “passing the torch” idea! There does seem to be much negativity towards this movie which I am finding confusing given the years of waiting. Even if the movie is made and it sucks, shouldn’t we at least give it a chance? We could be turning down the chance of seeing another great Ghostbusters movie. I really think that if the nails go into the GB coffin this time. It’s the LAST time. The quality of Ghostbusters 3 won’t damage the quality of the other Ghostbusters movies.
I ain’t afraid of no Ghost (busters 3)
Patrick, how to you read stuff like this and come up with something entirely different? She said she didn’t think she would be in it, as in others would decided the character would not appear, NOT that she’s changed her mind and doesn’t want to do it.
No sense in responding to Patrick. After reading his prior comments to other, similar articles I am convinced that either: a.) English is not his first language, b.) He’s not older than 11, or c.) All of the above.
I’m a huge GB fan and I don’t want a GB3. I think it’s fine with the 2 and now the game. Look at Beverly Hills Cop 3 or any number of series that just went too far for the sake of money. I’m more then happy with them leaving the bar very high and just walking away instead of lowering it to cash in. I know there’s a lot of demand for it and I know I would go see it but…the more I hear about it the more I think it’s a bad idea. Just one guts opinion though.
While people have long waited for GB3, perhaps, like many things, that time and window has come and gone.
When people said they wanted a third Ghostbusters movie, they meant the characters. Not a movie that is related in name only.
I would have loved a third movie…15 years ago. At this point, I worry that it would feel too forced. Passing the torch concepts always sound better in the planning stages than they do in the execution. It’s too easy to run the risk of audiences feeling like they are having characters forced upon them.
At this point, I think the way to go is with video games or a TV series.
We’ll see what happens.
I’m perfectly content with the two movies, the awesome cartoons, and the kickass game we have. If the third movie is decent, so much the better, but I’m not waiting on it.
I remember John Cleese explaining why he only wanted to make 12 episodes of Fawlty Towers (one of the best British comedies of all time). His reason was that he wanted people to remember it being funny and that he wanted to stop it before it became weakened with lower quality work.
Ghostbusters maybe should take note.
I hope she isn’t in Ghostbusters 3. In my opinion she shouldn’t even have been in ghostbusters 2!
Yeah, well, on that last comment, you’re right. Her being targeted in GB2 probably shouldn’t have happened. It was too … coincidental. And obviously GB2 was sadly a rehash of the plot from GB1, although that certainly doesn’t hurt GB2’s stand alone quality and I know many people prefer it over the first. Anyway, her “expect” is also like I don’t “expect” there to be a GB3 until they’re actually in the production stages or we start seeing movie trailers. Right now no one has officially signed on (you know Dan and Ernie don’t have to be begged but others do), there isn’t an accepted script, and there is no official theatrical release date. After playing the game, I actually think that either way there should be more games. Well, as long as those games don’t suck or screw up the characters or have bad, horrible stories, anyway.
When it comes to Ghostbusters 3, my biggest concern is that it’s going to lose the “feel” of certainly the first movie and 75% of what GB2 managed to hang on to. It makes me think of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as a cautionary tale – ignoring the storyline and silly plot points, it just didn’t “feel” like Indiana Jones, you know? The CGI and sections filmed on dubious soundstages took away those old feelings of awe and grandure that the other all had and still have. While obviously Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters are different styles of movies, I just wonder if this new era of film-making and the general attitude in Hollywood these days can capture the somewhat cozy and natural feel the other Ghostbusters movies had. A script being fleshed out by two new writers, endless speculation of a possible director, a seeming (and unproven, but go with it) move slightly away from the core foursome and towards a new cast, the nightmare scenario that the new cast will be packed with over-exposed people I’d rather not see in the legendary jumpsuit *cough*jackblack*sethrogen*cough*…
Don’t get me wrong, I want GB3 to happen in the worst way, and have since I walked out of that theater in 1989 after seeing Ghostbusters II, but I can’t help but dread that I’ll get exactly what I’m wishing for.
I’m convinced Patrick took Oprah’s advice and read The Secret…
Since John DeCuir, László Kovács and Elmer Bernstein are all dead I seriously doubt that the makers of the third Ghostbusters film will be able to capture the look and feel of the original. This is one of the major reasons why I think that Ghostbusters III should not be made. For me, if a sequel does not have the feel of its predecessors then it is not a true sequel.

…..RIGHT ON, Chris!
Castewar Last December of 2008 Sigourney heard about Ghostbusters 3 and she hoped that she would be in it. This year Dan Aykroyd said that she will be in GB3 and on the GB3 Imdb cast list her name was on there. I’m upset that she changed her mind. I know that the writers from the office wrote a Great GB3 script and they made Sigourney a big role not a cameo. I’m hoping that she will change her mind again because she’s my #1 Favorite actress and she will be Wonderful in the third movie as well as the first 2 movies. Oprah has nothing to do with this. Who ever said that about me is a retard! I’m sure that her Son Oscar will be trained as a Ghostbuster in GB3 and you know that he wants his Mom Dana to be in Ghostbusters 3. We have to see what happens now. I’m still going to see GB3 in 2012 even if Sigourney isn’t in it.
SHE DIDN’T CHANGE HER MIND!
There is a difference between someone saying “I don’t want to do it” and someone saying “I don’t think they’re going to use my character”, which is what she is saying here.
And yes, Net is a retard, but he’s always so happy and he gives it his all.
leave ghosbusters alone. YEAR ONE has flopped. so that is a danger sign. No GB3.
Siqorney Weaver doen’t “expect” to be in the “Ghostbusters 3″ (hypothetical sequel) that may or may not (hopefully is going to) be made. Maybe she is as “how in the logical fu*k” perplexed unlikely amazement that the coincidence of her old ass “leading lady” “damsel in distress” character, could possibly be targeted by beings all the way from another dimension for a third time. (no offence to her-she’s hot as fire in GB-1 with the curly cute hair do)
I agree with omen. If she’s in the third movie I’d hope that she’s not targeted but is simply there for actual character development purposes. Bill Murray is probably too old for them to do the whole romance interest as much as they used to – well, not really, they still could, but probably won’t unless it’s the Dana Barret character. If they were to revolve around a leading Ghostbuster romancing a damsel in distress it’d probably be one of the new-bloods, the rookies. But I’m hoping that they go for a step-father/step-son or a you’re-the-boy-of-the-woman-I-loved-and-use-to-save-all-the-time/new-recruit thing with Venkman and Oscar this time around. But I admit it still has “Crystal Skull” stamped all over it. Honestly? I’d settle for more video games or a CGI movie voiced by the actors.
“The GB3 movie is still going to be made. The Original GB’s will be in GB3 Training a new team to help them out. Why don’t you want GB3 to be made? Are you a GB Fan or what? Why don’t I want it made? Because it is clearly going to be bad. I’ve been waiting 20 years for a sequel but I don’t want a crap one just because Sony is in the mood to rape. Passing the torch is a terrible idea. Has never worked in a film because you cant replace great characters with flavor of the month talent. That’s why Indy 4 sucked and Indy 3 did not. Sean Connery is a legend in his own right. So we can all buy that he can go on an adventure with Indy. Shia Lebeouf is a flavor of the month. So he has not right to be on screen with a legend. As for the writers. How are you so sure they’ll write a good script. They wrote the terrible bomb fart YEAR ONE. And lets face the facts they’ve only wrote 11 episodes of the office and they could’ve been the worst episodes. No thanks with the cheap Jim and Pam drama in ghostbusters. Year One showed their talent and maybe Ramis has lost it too. This 3rd movie might have been a marketing scheme by Sony to get people to buy the game and see a crappy movie “Year one”. So don’t hold your breath, if murray thought the second film was bad and it was actually pretty good then I don’t think he will accept the script for the 3rd film. Especially since there is no incentive to do the project. He isn’t friends with the original actors anymore and has proven he’s not doing movies for money anymore.
Being a ghostbusters fan means you have to be more then a blind idiot.
