The Fwoosh has pretty much poured over Mattel’s 6 inch Egon and Slimer figure set, including a lot of up close pics, size comparisons to other toys – NECA’s GB figures in particular – and more. Of particular interest is that they seem to like Ray’s 6 inch figure in October will come with the No-Ghost logo ghost. News to me all around, but good to hear.
Egon and Slimer are due to go on sale on the Mattel site after ComicCon, so stay tuned. Thanks to Juan for the link!

It looks pretty neat but… awful glasses.
What are those glasses made of? Play doh?? Those are horrible!!
And… they should made it at least 8″ tall, so it can match with the NECA´s figures.
BTW, McFarlane Toys should have the licence for the figures… IMO.
If McFarlane made the figures they would look good but probably wouldn’t move. So that would suck
Keep in mind, technically, it is McFarlanes people working on the line. The 4 Horsemen came through the ranks of McFarlane and, ultimately, decided to go out on their own.
well good for them. they took their attention for detail and made awesome gb figures with multiple points of articulation
I don’t know what it is, but that Gozer statue freaks me out. I can’t even look at it. It’s not even scary-looking but it is still creeping me out, what the hell!
Overall good design; however, the frames are too thick. They look very Harry Potteresque. Tempted to buy him to keep my 2 terror dogs confined to the refrigerator!
I like the Neca slimer much better…kinda makes me wonder if Neca would’ve done a bit of a better job with the boys in gray.
I’ll be the odd man out, and say that other than Slimer, this is FANTASTIC!!…Especially ironic as I was one of the ones that picked out details from the prototypes and nitpicked them to death…
Sure the glasses are still kinda wonky, and the pack is missing a *couple* minute details [nothing than can't be modded, and re-displayed as the card works as almost a slipcase], but I’m MORE than elated with this figure, and the way things are going with this line!!
What I’m concerned with, as most are is the availability…Come 12:01pm August 3rd [???] we’re ALL going to be fighting over this figure like cats and dogs [pardon the pun]…Ghostheads, Casuals, and Scalpers alike…And this will unfortunately be the climate for the forseeable future…
I just would honestly like to see a better avenue for distribution…I know department stores are out of the question…But what about comic stores, or other online outlets?
I just would like to see ALL of us that are interested in this series have a CONCRETE chance at getting these…
Cheers.
Online outlets other than Matty I mean…
Where’s Slimer’s butt?

Oh geez… I MUST have these figures!
I’m not buying the mini-mates, but as long as Egon and Ray are both the same size (I read strange occurrences of Egon being 12″ with Ray only 6″?). I’d love to finally get my hands on those NECA figures too. But I do agree that Slimer doesn’t look as good as the older NECA version.
A.K.A., buying these.
The ray that comes out in September is the first figure in the 12 inch line. They are supposed to do all 4 Ghostbusters in 6 and 12 inch versions.
I think it looks pretty good (I’m a fan of the 4 Horsemen), other than the slightly too thick glasses, but in such a small scale it would be hard to make them thinner. I hope the rumor of Ray coming with the “No Ghost”-Ghost is just that, a rumor. What sense would it make for him to come with a giant No Ghost? They didn’t fight a No Ghost in the movie! He should come with the librarian!
Has a list been released of all figures they intend to release? This Egon is called “slimed Egon”, so are we to assume that an un-slimed version will also be released? As well, someone mentioned RGB figures too? Reeeeeally?
Wow… I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the quality of these figures. I thought the prototypes looked ‘okay’, but after seeing the final product in that review, I am definately going to think twice about purchasing these figures. The proton pack looks AWEFUL in many ways including sculpt, scaling, paint apps. The likeness barely resembles Ramis and is cast in that shiny “flesh” colored plastic. The protos lead us to believe the heads were going to be painted. The friggin proton gun is warped, the glasses are crap (glasses are usually hard to nail in the scale though), and don’t even get me started on that Slimer accessory. Yeah, I reeeaally wish McFarlane or NECA had done these figures, or even Mezco for that matter. I can only cringe at the thought of what the 12″ figures will look like. Way to drop the ball Mattel.
High res pictures of six inch action figures never look good because you’re going to be able to see blemishes and paint mistakes that you will never notice while actually holding one in your hand. My only complaint is that at 20 bucks, couldn’t he at least come with a PKE meter? And then Ray could come with Ecto Goggles, and another with a trap?
Well, as an avid collector, I’ve seen my share of excellent and poor figures, statues, etc. I really wish I could say these were passable, but with the quality Mattel has put into their other series, there really is no excuse for how poor the GB figs are turning out. I’m happier with the MiniMates, honestly.
I reeaally hope (for once) that this is something i can order straight from their website to the UK. I don’t wanna have to go to ebay again… *sigh.
For those wondering about Ray, He DOES come with the no ghost logo. Its been pictured before and if I can dig it up I’ll post it. I think the figure is fine, I feel that the nay sayers aren’t seeing the full picture. Given the scale of the figure and budgeting there is things that cant be done. I was reading an interview with the 4 horsemen and they talked about what details they had to skimp on so as to not charge people 50$ per figure. Mainly they talked about things on the pack, such as the ion arm. I for one plan on adding the details myself. Not a fan of that slimer though, he just looks…weird haha.
Right *cracks knuckles*
First off let me say I’ve been a professional sculptor in the toy industry for over 11 years now and I know what to look for in a sculpt and in a toy.
Almost everything I’ve seen thats come from the Four Horsemen has been pretty damn top knotch…until now, and what a productline to screw up.
I’ve seen the prototype sculpts which are pretty bloody good (even though it can be pretty hard to screw up a 2 up sculpt) I had really high hopes for this toy line. the problems here are down to the factory.
If anyone from the four horsemen or Mattel is reading this SACK THE FACTORY NOW, move to somewhere else. This kind of screw up is UNACCEPTABLE. I know this had to be panotgraphed down to the 6″ scale but jeezus they really screwed the pooch on this one. Its blobby, badly painted. Someone has taken it upon themselves to resculpt some of the details (the original sculpt and the first 6″ shrunk down version didn’t have the awful cross hatching on the sholder straps) Those glasses are awful but thats more down to factory quality control than bad sculpting.
I can see where cheaper and lower density PVC has been used in parts. And as for what the hell happened to the proton pack, damn thats awful. It looks like the pantograph machine was set to the wrong scale or the factory lost the original and had someone knock up something close (which is also a definate possibility, I’ve seen it happen).
And whoever came up with that packaging design (and the product manager who approved it) needs to be sent back to design school as its bloody awful.
So in summary -
Mattel – Sack the factory, move to another or demand they never use the secondary or any other back up production crew again (I know what happens at these places at peak season)
– Kick your QC team in the far east in the arse
– Kick your stateside team in the arse for letting this slide. SDCC or no SDCC this run should have been rejected.
– Ask your packaging design team exactly what crack they were on and if they’ve ever actually SEEN Ghostbusters
– Kick your Product Managers in the arse because they should have known better.
Four Horsemen – Jeezus guys what the hell did they do to your sculpts?
Mattel Shame on you
What about Peter and Winston?
@Astro_Zombie:
“I was reading an interview with the 4 horsemen and they talked about what details they had to skimp on so as to not charge people 50$ per figure. Mainly they talked about things on the pack, such as the ion arm.”
Would love to read this, know where I can find the article?
Cheers.
IMO- Cut back on the articulation on the 6″ figures. Add a little more detail and cover each figure in marshmallow (like in the end of the first film). Have Egon, Ray, Winston covered more so then Venkman, of course. Maybe not so much as to not recognize them but still be able to tell who they are. Heck, that would even cover up most of the proton pack and would be easier to produce I would imagine. Give Ray a cig in his mouth, Winston a huge smile, etc… Save all the crazy articulation and detail for the 12″ figures and have them come with a ghost to pair up with the 6″. Would make for a good cross promotion and more people would by both rather then one or the other.
And make a plastic proton beam someone…. por favor.
Well, these figures look cool, but useless to me since they are not compatible in size to the original Real Ghostbusters line.
@ Gorfzulcy:
You do realize that there is plans for a NEW RGB line correct?
Hey people,
Check ebay….a couple of people are selling them. They get them straight from Comic Con, so you get them before alot of people. Type “ghostbusters mattel” in the search engine. Prices are not too bad…I have already ordered one…cannot wait!!!! Egon is my fav ghostbuster so it helps this figure has come out first.
Hope this helps all you fellow ghostbusters fans!!!
