For those of you that haven’t heeded advice and are reading things into all the Ghostbusters 3 talk – and you know who you are. And some of you more than others – here is cold, hard fact from Dan himself. This video was taken yesterday at a signing for his Father’s new book, A History of Ghosts.
As said before, everyone is excited for it and there is a script, but that’s a long way from going into production, when it hasn’t been given a greenlight from the studio and the money is moving. So, for the time being, we’re going to have to wait for news that confirms that either the movie is greenlit, or has been definitively shut down.
Thanks to Ecto Freak and Dan for the heads up.

nothing really new
Harold said for months: “It’s all talk until it will be greenlighted” Ivan was more positive, Bill more cautious…..but everything is like this summer, with the difference that there is a script approved by the five rightholders. These are very positive signs….but not facts!
That last line is classic Dan. Looks like Murray and Aykroyd are putting the heat on Sony (inadvertently or not). I’m still feeling the magic in the air, nowhere near close to counting out Ghostbusters 3. That said, this week has taught us a valuable lesson: proceed into the unknown with caution.
I would love to know who/what is holding this up and why.
I hope Sony is paying attention to all of the interviews of the guys. It seems that every single one get’s asked about news on GB3. If it doesn’t happen then oh well. We at least got a good Ghostbusters game after years of crap. I just don’t want it to fall apart because Sony thinks that no one wants to see another Ghostbusters Movie.
No, it’s not really new, Ray, but in the face of a lot of people that are treating the movie as if it’s getting made right now, despite what PC has been reporting for months, it never hurts to repeat it – particular if it’s Dan saying it.
This STILL won’t stop, you know who though. But, hey, it’s kinda fun proving him wrong time and time again.
I think it’s still important though, to realize that all these guys are doing is reinforcing the reality of the situation.
It’s hard to quantify, but lets say that in order for “Ghostbusters III” to be in production, you need to fill a theoretical “ghost meter” to 100. These last few months the meter has been at about 20-25, and now It’s at like 30 with a finished script. Unfortunately it seems a lot of fans thought the official Ghost Meter™ was at 50 or maybe 75 (or even 100), but that was never the case.
Doesn’t it seem strange though that they seem so negative about it? It’s true that they’re not saying anything too differently, that it’s the same response, but they seem a lot less optimistic that the film will get the greenlight. Aykroyd is saying it’s not even close, Murray was adamant that there’s no script, etc. What happened to Bill joking about humming the theme song to himself? What happened to all the positive energy?
“Doesn’t it seem strange though that they seem so negative about it?”
I think it’s just the natural human response when you’re asked about it constantly. The Beatles don’t want to be Beatles every damn day. Jesus doesn’t always want to talk about the bible, sometimes he wants to talk about the new Dan Brown book.
Dan is not saying that it’s not even close. he says that thay need the production number. And i don’t think that Sony “Sony thinks that no one wants to see another Ghostbusters Movie”.
We are forgetting that SONY STARTED IT ALL. Sony hired the scriptwriters, after the game’s succes. Sony started something GB3 related after that also Dan Aykroyd, the big GB3 cheerleader, was lettin’ it go and moving towards CGI projects, after he said that the only GB3 we ever have was the game.
Sony is believing in GB3 this time.
Sorry for the mess, i have a bad english
Sony Greenlit Year One, gave that film 100mil. Probably because they are listening to their analysts who are getting bogus information saying “Ghostbusters isn’t popular, Aykroyd and Murray aren’t today our research says we need another movie about 35 year olds starting their own fraternity.”
They play everything by crappy research which is unfounded and assumed. They think they can predict what will be a blockbuster and what wont be. Which Year One and many of their other crappy pictures prove is not true.
So, why they hired two writers to write GB3 if their analysts says “Ghostbusters isn’t popular”?
i wish sony would green light this and then let the creative elements have total control over the movie. we the fans should send sony a message telling them we only want to see the original four guys in the third movie. i think if all the gb fans really rallied together the studio would have to listen……may be not but its worth a try. it would not be the first time fans on the net affected a movie. lets ban together and show this prehistoric bitch how we do things down town
I dunno.. I think the ghost meter to get moved into production is at 90 or so.. all we need is an official announcement.
Think about it… a year ago, there was nothing. The video game wasn’t even being released on time, and was just changing hands.. we didn’t even know it it was ever going to even be released!
But now, the games were released, and were well accepted. There’s even been talk of a sequel game. All the actors had a blast doing the work together, sony commissioned a script, all the license holders like it, ivan reitman wants to direct and or produce, and even sigourney weaver is onboard.
Thats a HUGE leap foreward.. once they get the green light, thats pretty much it, because the studio is spending money.
Odds are Sony is just going to tie in the green light announcement in with something else, possbly Halloween, a movie release, or dvd promotion of some kind.
“So, why they hired two writers to write GB3 if their analysts says “Ghostbusters isn’t popular”?”
There is no proof those writers were hired at all. Or that there even is a script. And also the cost of a rough draft is probably nothing to Sony. Now paying Aykroyd, Reitman, Ramis, and Murray plus a group of new actors is a big chunk of change to invest. They will cost more then actually producing the film.
I know that todays thing is the internet an emails but why dont do it the old fashion way, awriten letter to sony letting them know there are tons of fans out there that really enjoy the ghostbusters, so intead of sellig us the same stuff (wich is cool dont get me wrong) over and over again somethig new would be great and can still be very profitable economically speackig
written letters are good too im just saying lets make them make the movie we want to see not the just some crap they want to sell to us. pressure the studio to produce a good movie that could stand on it’s own if it had to. that and lets show dan aykroyd we have his back
I still hope, and dream, and focus on this movie getting made. This is one of those things, if every GB fan shows enough interest it WILL get made. I mean if I go to see the movie ten times that’s a hundred dollars give or take.
If all of the million fans go to see it ten times that’s a hundred million dollars….
If a few million GB fans go to see it, you see where I’m going with this.
NO ONE will only go to see a good GB ounce. Well okay some people might but not us, we’ll see it a few times at least. I’d say AT LEAST 4 times.I think that if Sony gave it a good but not crazy budget, just the fans would give them back at least equal to the money it cost to make.
I mean look at firely/Serenity it lasted 12 episodes and the fan base was so strong that it made Warner make a movie….
Are you seriously telling me we Ghostheads aren’t twice as determined and four times as hard headed? We got the tools, we got the POWER!
So, I look forward to going to see this movie with my friends, dressed as ghost busters ((through black mail for them)) and ounce were done seeing it, walk out and say “We came, we saw and IT KICKED A$$!”
I KNOW I’m getting my hopes up, I know they might be crushed, but as long as I have breathe in my body, I will hope this movie is made. If I ever get enough money I will pay all parties responsible TO make this movie. I want to see a GB movie in theaters. I want to own a third teaser poster and official poster, hanging them on my wall next to the GB 1 and 2 poster.
So yeah, people and criticize it all they want think it’s not gonna happen, but I hope, it will, I pray it will, my family hopes it will just so I’ll have new quotes to add when I go days at a time only quoting the movies.
Power to the people, AND POWER TO THE BUSTERS!
Hod, it’s one thing for people to start reading facts into the discussion that just aren’t there – and there’s also discounting the facts that do exist. We do know the Office writers were hired to do a script – several people in a position to know have said as much. And there is a script, because again, people in the know have said as much.
I’m thinking I may just not allow comments for anything GB3 related for awhile.
Probably for the best, Chris.
Yay! No greenlit crappy Office Writers script! Woo! I can rest easy for a short while!
