As catchy as the song is – and by this point, you may have already heard it, as the season appropriate track hit public ears this week – the video seals the deal. Hoobastank loves Ghostbusters.
Any band can cover Ghostbusters, and probably has. It’s a song so catchy and popular that hamsters have covered it. But to do it well, while sporting some sweet Real Ghostbusters gear, to wave around an awesome neon RGB PKE meter, to find yourself a Janine AND Dana/Zuul to appear in your video… well, that takes some geek passion. And don’t even get me started on their Samhain cameo – quick and dirty, maybe, but hilarious! They even toss in a GB2 nod!

The video is now up on YouTube, which means you can play a HQ version (this one is sizable, but the YouTube one has it beat by a bit.) Currently it appears this song and video are not available for purchase – it sounds like the the song, and definitely the video (which apparently was shot and cut a mere four days ago) is a little Halloween love-letter from the band to their fans, but their new album, Fornever, is out now.

Pretty darn cool. Looked it up on iTunes, couldn’t find it. Arg! Great seeing a bunch of emo-rockers pretending to be GBs though! And the way they add their own spin to the small recreations of small scenes…pretty darn cool.
Pretty cool version of Ghostbusters,wonder if they go out to costume parties in those outfits? either way,pretty cool combo tribute to the movies and cartoon…great job guys.

LOVE IT!!!! the song is cool, best cover i’ve heard so far… but the video is awesome!!!!! the combo of real GB and movie GB is done amazingly, with the big cartoony equipment and the flightsuit colors mixed with all of the little details of the movie’s counterparts, like the name tags and the ray character smoking his cigarette… only thing missing was an ECTO-1… if hoobastank’s label could pony up the dough to get the rights to cover the song, they probably could’ve also gotten one of the many ECTOs that have been touring the country for cons and such…

Finally, somebody did a good cover. Everytime I hear somebody say, “we did GHOSTBUSTERS,” I cringe, because they’re usually such crap, but finally, we got something good. And it was entertaining to watch, and the the FX during the song breaks were fun. Thanks.
Good, but they shouldn’t have changed Busting makes me feel good to the “pretty good” line…that was lame. Other than that, I enjoyed it.
Am I the only one who thinks that cover sucked? I mean, it’s better than the Mad Caddies version, I’ll give it that, but it could’ve been a lot better. This just sounded goofy and silly. I appreciate their Ghostbusters love, and the RGB love as well. But where’s the energy of “Crawling in the Dark”? Where’s the seriousness? Ray Parker Jr.’s version may have been poppy, but it certainly wasn’t “goofy,” and there was also a dark edge to it. This version is just stupid. What’s with all the “Hey Ho’s” during the chorus riff, and the retarded barnyard sound effects during the bridge? …I wish someone would make a REAL cover some day….
I didn’t really like this cover all that much. It’s better than some, worse than others. The main thing for me is it’s missing some energy and any actual “individual to the band” variations. Even just a tempo increase of maybe 5% would make this cover feel better. Nothing overly fast but still with a little more life to it than this version.

The cover itself isn’t great but the video I can appreciate.
I rather enjoyed it. I agree with most, I would have expected something edgier, and even hoped for it from Hoobastank. However I’m down with any main stream exposure Ghostbusters can get right now. Unfortunantly this band isn’t what it used to be in my book, but I did like the song and LOVED the video. I noticed some were having trouble finding it, I could provide an mp3 if there is interest. I’ll host it on the forum or whatev.

First of all, I don’t think the song or video could’ve been anymore energetic. The late 90′s are over, ska is dead. A huge tempo increase would have been too chaotic. The Heys and Hos sealed the deal for me and everyone just looks like they’re having so much fun. It’s too cliche’ to get dark with it as well. Whoever commented with that needs to think outside the box and know that his or her direction is too popular. Wannabe Christopher Nolan if you ask me! Remember Akyroyd, Ramis, and Reitman wanted the original theme song to sound like the opening to a television show.
I just played this several times concurrently, and I’m guessing Huey Lewis (and The News) just made at least 15 cents.

Just got around to watching this (I know, I’m late), but all I can say is WOW! The song and video were great, especially the music during the guitar solo part, it was super accurate.
mad props for the RGB costumes, I was actually wondering the other night if a group of guys have ever done the RGB outfits/proton packs. They’re proton packs look damn close the the cartoon version.
BTW this cover sucks, but mad props for their costumes.

Haven’t thought about Hoobastank since probably the last time I thought about Chumbawumba… which was just now too… but that was a pretty rad video and not a bad cover. If I was music super on the new film it’d be in the “close but not quite” pile for new title song cover.

I’ve never really been a fan of Hoobastank(they just never caught my attention), but I must say that this was an awesome cover and video. Extra kudos go to them for sporting the RGB gear and for including hot chicks as Janine and Dana/Zuul. BTW, have any other fans out there done such a nice job on RGB gear and uniform as Hoobastank here? I don’t think I’ve ever seen any fans dressed up as RGB till this video.
