As reported earlier in the Fall, The Tavern on the Green filed for bankruptcy protect, giving them time to restructure without pressure from creditors. Now it seems all that hasn’t panned out and the Tavern will close next week. As of January 1st, the location will close and the owners, the LeRoy family, will have until February to remove or auction off items from the famous interior. It’s hard to imagine a Central Park landmark will entirely disappear, but you can never be too sure with a prime location like that, and regardless if it does remain, it will never be the same.

Having worked at Circuit City untill March of this year when they closed, this does not bode well for Tavern on the Green…
Hopefully though, unlike Circuit City, they will be able to turn it around.
I hope some investors to appear and save the place. For benefit of the park, the city and the GB fans.
“Kinda pricey for a unique fixer upper opportunity…”
im sure someone will open it back up.. u cant kill something that nice
Rolo & Vashthestaypuft – The city has already given the Tavern license to someone else, so it WILL reopen, but not with the original fixtures (painting, chandeliers, topiaries, etc.) and maybe not even with the same name (the city and LeRoy family are currently in dispute over the name).
In other words, the building will still be there and will eventually reopen, but it won’t be the same as it’s been for the last several decades.
