MTV cornered Ernie Hudson in Toronto and like everybody else there, asked him about Ghostbusters 3. While he only knows as much as we do (and admits as much, unlike some people) he does know what he’d like to see in a third Ghostbusters film;
‘If it does go forward I want to see Winston be all the way through the movie for once for God’s sake – not an hour into the movie, here comes Winston.’ Hudson told us. ‘Also, I’d like to see Winston have some sort of back story. Where does Winston go? Is he married? Does he have an apartment? Does he live on the street? Who is this Winston guy that we’ve seen two movies about?’
Agreed! More Winston!

Amen! It’d be nice to see the character treated in the movies more like he was in the cartoon.
Comment by Patrick, too!
I agree with Ernie. Screw new recruits lets find out more about Winston. He seemed a little buzzed in this interview but he’s pretty funny. In all honesty though Ray and Egon got just a little more screen time in GB2 than winson, most of the time it was Murray. Which is rightly so. He isn’t a show stealer by accident, he’s fcking funny. And that is why he gets the most screen time. I hope (wont happen thanks to $ony) but I hope Winston gets more development, I hope Venkman is the lead. I hope Egon and Ray aren’t retiring and I hope there aren’t passing the torch style recruits. But you can hope in one hand and crap in the other, which one gets filled first? $ony is out to drive a beloved franchise into the ground, and $ony gets what $ony wants.
For what it’s worth, I hope everyone gets the Ghostbusters 3 they deserve… and for being as patient as true die-hard ghostheads are, $ony should hear this at once:
GREENLIGHT!
I love this guy! He’s awesome & funny!
i totally agree with him. in the earlier drafts of the script Winston was in the movie from beginning to end. of course that was when they wanted Eddie Murphy, but he chose to do Beverly hills cop instead. Ernie is huge fan favorite. this would be a great time to expand Winston like originally intended. at least he got a ph.d in the game.
winston’s the man
Winston, the unsung Ghostbuster! How about some character development. Isn’t that what they do in movies, develop characters?
Ive always wondered why in ghostbusters 2 winston is in the courtroom at the start and then he is sitting behind the other gbs, but halfway through the scene he disappears. Winston has always been my favorite and when i heard he would have a phd in the game i thought oh hes going to be in it loads and he still wasnt.
boooooo
Sounds great to me I would love to see more of Winston, he should get alittle more respect to! And he should be in all of the movie to just a few scenes.
I mean not just a few scenes! My bad!
I blame the grand parents! There is no excusing bad punc.tuation, litterisy, and grandma. Bad boy Brad!
“Of course if it’s got a steady spell check in it -I’ll believe anythin’ you say!”

Nice to see I’m not the only one who brought a three cast member autograph picture for him too sign.
All the images I’ve been able to find with him in it, the group shot is super wide angle, and it doesn’t look good on a photo
.
winston is pissed!!!!! lol i would like to see more winston though
Unbelievable, He shakes hands at a number of comic conventions and ends up convinced that he’s the FIRST GHOSTBUSTER! He should probably pass that by the primary rights-holders first (Dan, Harold, Bill, Ivan)..
I totally agree. It’s time we get to know the real Winston Zeddmore. In GB1, it was the introduction. In GB2, Winston didn’t get involved with most the other 3 GBs until they were back in business. But we see him in The Real Ghostbusters alot and in Ghostbusters: The Video Game, he was more involved.
But let Ernie Hudson have big parts in GB3. If they do kill of Bill Murray’s character in the first reel, then this could be the moment for Ernie.

Whaddup ‘Bert…I got a bigger part in the next Ghostbusters movie. Oh, and Big Bird’s spitting feathers regarding your share of child care…
I know I may be treading in dangerous waters here, but I really liked what they did with Winston in “Ghostbusters: The Other Side” by giving him a bit of a back story and confirming that he now has his doctorate. The video game also mentions when he was studying for his doctorate, so hopefully the third movie will follow in those footsteps and give him a bit more of a role.
Extremely cool. I love that he slipped in the phrase “…a steady paycheck…”
He’s actually quite right about everything re: Winston needing more screentime or maybe a backstory. I don’t sense an actor’s ego in that sentiment at all, he’s just saying what a lot of fans have been wondering about for some time now. He’s spent 20+ years being nice about it. Now he might as well take the gloves off and say what’s really on his mind. I’m glad he did.
You got me on that one Trotski!
I agree with Bryan, he has spent 25 years being nice about it,and that hasnt worked so it needed to be said. Whats messed up is Rick Morranis had had just as much if not more screen time in Ghostbusters 2 then Ernie Hudson, and I have no problem with Morranis, but he was not even an unofficial ghostbuster until the movie had nearly ended, yet Winston somehow is some how cut short despite being one from the start. To be honest the only person ho does more Ghostbusters stuff than him is Dan Akroyd, so it’s messed up that he has to sign a movie poster he isnt on despite being a so called main character, and dedicated to the movies and its fans. But its not like its Akroyd or Ramis’s fault, the studio cut alot of his scenes out, ok, if it was because he wasnt Eddie Murphy I understand, but that was the first movie, there’s no excuse for the second. Also, even in the game the he isnt anywhere in the first act, he has a right to be mad.
i agree winston should have been on all the posters! …wtf?!
that’d be nice. They should focus on the main team. maybe have a few new characters & I do mean maybe! main focus Egon,Winston,Ray,Peter & then the newbies if there are any.
