Family Guy cards include one-of-a-kind Ghostbusters card
Posted on July 3, 2008
It’s a brilliant idea for selling cards - for every one box of card packs, Inkworks randomly inserted a hand-drawn card, created by one of 13 comics artists. The variety is amazing (click here for five pages of samples - and simple math will tip you off that there are hundreds more out there), but the prize catch is this Peter Griffin as Ghostbuster card by Chris Moreno (which sold for $150 on ebay - yowza!)
Thanks to Justis for the heads up - man, if only we had $150 lying around, eh?
[UPDATE] Good grief - A look at the first series, which also featured these sketch cards, had 6,340 of them, drawn by 14 artists. Some artists did over 500 cards each! And you can see them all here. Let’s hope they put all the series 2 cards up as well, so we can see if they did any more Ghostbuster cards (maybe not, but hey… maybe.)

(Knott’s Berry Farm; Buena Park, CA)
Nov. 19-30 – L.A. Auto Show
(L.A. Conv. Ctr; Los Angeles, CA)
No San Diego Comic Con - what up with that?j
[UPDATE] My late night post beat out the arrival of official press release on the tour. You can read it here. The pr is video game centric, which suggests that the tour is specifically a Vivendi/Sierra event, which would explain the absence of the SDCC, where one would assume Sony would handle any Ecto-1 and 1a appearances as part of the “big announcement.” Cheers to AJ at GBfans.com for linking people to the press release, for those interested.
For those not interested, the kicker is the blurb on some of the upgrades given to the Ecto-1 (some of which we saw in earlier photos.)
In light of ECTO-1’s tour to some of the hottest car shows throughout the country, Sony has taken the liberty to update the Ghostbusters’ ride with the latest and greatest Sony Xplod mobile electronics. ECTO-1 now sports a Sony XAV-W1 double din touch screen A/V center, Xplod XS-GT1625A speakers and an Xplod XS-L10S slim subwoofer – all the essentials to keep ECTO-1’s sound system on par with the rest of the ghost catching equipment found on the Ghostbusters’ primary mode of transportation.
It better play THIS, that’s all I’m saying; :p

Ecto-1 busts out some wings in London
Posted on June 8, 2008

The 2nd Annual Red Bull Flugtag London took place this passed weekend (there are other events around the world, but this is the second in London) as dozens of teams attempted to catch air with their homemade flying machines - few are aerodynamic, instead focusing on being more fun than functional. This year, a team launched what was essentially a fantastic looking cardboard Ecto-1 with a hang-glider on top - results were mixed, but hilarious. For a better look at the craft, click here.

Reitman Jr. hopes for big budget future and Ecto-1 takes #6,
Posted on May 15, 2008
In a recent interview about what his future holds, Jason Reitman (son of Ivan) said he has his “Ghostbusters idea”, meaning a big-budget sci-fi comedy. As long as he doesn’t have an Evolution idea. Thanks to Adam for spotting that one.
And a million and one of you emailed me about the Rotten Tomatoes classic movie car top 50 - everyone was pretty excited by Ecto-1 taking #6 (that means it’s been steadily moving up in the ranks of various top lists over the years).

Ecto-1a restoration pushed back
Posted on April 29, 2008

The Hollywood Detective has check-in with PC, saying that due to an increased workload for active TV and movies, the restoration company that restored the Ecto-1 has had to put work on the Ecto-1a aside until mid-May or June. The HD also confirms that the Ecto-1 is currently on the Sony lot, and it only has two confirmed events in the future - namely appearing at the San Diego Comic Con and a game launch event on the Sony lot.

Ecto-1 back on the Sony lot
Posted on April 25, 2008
No word yet where if it’s going to hit the road anytime soon, but for the moment it appears the restored Ecto-1 is resting in the shade on the Sony lot.

Ecto-1 hauled across country
Posted on April 18, 2008

As you’d expect with a rare and expensive to maintain car like the Ecto-1, it appears Sony and Vivendi are hauling it around from stop to stop - Flickr member HeyRocker caught the above picture a week ago in California, a week before the same car appeared out of thin air in Minnesota.

Official Ecto-1 appears in Minnesota!
Posted on April 16, 2008

A fairly well detailed Ecto-1 turned up on a parking lot in Richfield, MN. Why? Who does it belong to? Maybe it doesn’t matter More info on what’s up below - have a look at some close-up pics!
[UPDATE] Here are some more pics - it appears that this was a deliberate visit to Best Buy corporate headquaters. Which begs the question, was this something to do with some the upcoming sales of the game, moves (possibly on Blu-Ray), etc? Remember, stores had exclusive goodies for the sales of the Real Ghostbusters DVDs, and Best Buy often has DVDs with exclusive extra discs or mini-comics, etc.
[UPDATE] Well, it’s official - it’s the real Ecto-1, post-restoration. AJ at GBFans was there, and it was part of an official corporate promotional tour. So, it’s pretty safe to assume you’ll be able to buy the Ghostbusters game at your nearest Best Buy. ;p
[UPDATE] AJ has 277 (Yes, as in nearly three hundred) reference pictures of the car at GBFans, for those of you who would like to have a look.
[UPDATE] The world is awash in photos from this one appearance of the Ecto-1. Here’s another set. If this first surprise peek is any indication, restoring the cars (still no sign of the Ecto-1a yet) was money well spent on Sony’s part.
[UPDATE] AJ’s at GBFans.com, having seen the car, and presumably having talked to people in a position to know (either with Sony or Best Buy) is reporting that Sony and Vivendi are aiming to release the game and Blu-Ray disc at the same time;
Both are hoping to be released on October 21st, 2008.. while neither is set in stone, both are likely to be released on the same day. Vivendi is working on a Best Buy Exclusive promotion, as well as promotions with Target and GameStop.
Sony and Vivendi are also teaming up for a DVD Cash Promotion. All copies of the Vivendi Ghostbusters: The Video Game for XBox 360, PS2, & Wii will come with a DVD cash credit good towards the purchase of the Ghostbusters Collectors Edition DVD (while supplies last).
This is unofficial of course, but we’ve heard rumblings for awhile that this would be the case, and this goes a loooong way to supporting those rumblings.

Still playing catch-up…
Posted on April 4, 2008
A few news items I’ve been meaning to post, as I catch up from my highly condensed March;
- Actor James MacAvoy (The Last King of Scotland and the upcoming Wanted) in a recent interview with USA Weekend (a supplement in various newspapers) revealed himself, like many yoots from the UK, to be a Ghostbusters fan. Thank to Paul at Spook Central for that one.
(USA Weekend, Nov. 30 - Dec. 2, 2007)
Q: What movies captured your interest during those early years?
A: Michael J. Fox appeared in nearly every movie that I loved. Also, I loved all those Brat Pack movies. I used to watch a lot of romantic comedies, but the Back to the Future trilogy, The Goonies and Ghostbusters were my favorites.

- Our favorite, privately-owned, road-regulation, Ectomobile - the Ecto-1K - got some love (and a sweet photo, see above) in Subaru’s first official British Magazine! Read the whole article here - thanks for Boomerjinks for sending the scan. Everybody loves your car, dude - it’s officially official. And international.
- AT&T has announced they will be working with Sony Pictures to create the world’s first cell-phone based movie channel. Unlike on-demand services, this channel will be linear - presumably meaning you tune in and something is playing. So, their plan is that you will want to watch a tiny movie AND not care which one it is. The first crop of films include Bugsy, The Karate Kid, and Ghostbusters.
- A Pennsylvania police station is apparently haunted, which is neat. The local news covers it, which is what they do - local colour, y’know? But the last question the reporter asks, at the end of this video, is awesome. Thanks Brendan!
And there are more - I’m getting to them, I swear!

Rocky Mountain Ecto needs your votes
Posted on March 13, 2008
Remember the Ecto-1K (a GB-suped Subaru)? Well, the Denver Fox channel has included it in their Coolest Car in Colorado contest… and thus far, it’s kicking ass. With a 4.5 average out of 5 (the other’s haven’t broken 3) it’s the clear leader. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a moment to vote for it.
Boomer, if you win, I demand you post the video for us to see!
