Greg Miller as ghostbusters fan 1984-2008

Posted on July 30, 2008

The world of gaming press and Ghostbusters fandom lost a real fanboy yesterday when IGN reporter Greg Miller pretend-ended his own life over the news that Activision was pondering the future placement of several in-production titles, including Ghostbusters: The Video Game. Greg the fan leaves behind an office of giggling co-workers, a dog (we assume) named Portillo, three overdue reviews, and a hole in our hearts. See the not-at-all gruesome video here.

More Than A Costume - an SDCC mini-doc about costumers

Posted on July 29, 2008

Video Loading…

Bryan Fear, back from the congested floors of the San Diego Comic Con, send in a heads up about this mini-documentary (four minutes - an easy watch) about the people who spend a lot of time and money building costumes specifically for the con. The piece heavily features our West Coast favs, the WCBs.

Bryan was also nice enough to answers a few questions and also came back a font of interesting info; Read more

Arizona Ghostbusters on Fox

Posted on July 10, 2008

The Arizona Ghostbusters got some TV time today on the local Fox affiliate! It’s really great they got a chance to talk a bit about their charity work - hopefully they, and other groups (like the West Coast Busters) will inspire even more groups to give back to the community. Bravo guys!

Family Guy cards include one-of-a-kind Ghostbusters card

Posted on July 3, 2008

It’s a brilliant idea for selling cards - for every one box of card packs, Inkworks randomly inserted a hand-drawn card, created by one of 13 comics artists. The variety is amazing (click here for five pages of samples - and simple math will tip you off that there are hundreds more out there), but the prize catch is this Peter Griffin as Ghostbuster card by Chris Moreno (which sold for $150 on ebay - yowza!)

Thanks to Justis for the heads up - man, if only we had $150 lying around, eh?

[UPDATE] Good grief - A look at the first series, which also featured these sketch cards, had 6,340 of them, drawn by 14 artists. Some artists did over 500 cards each! And you can see them all here. Let’s hope they put all the series 2 cards up as well, so we can see if they did any more Ghostbuster cards (maybe not, but hey… maybe.)

Born in 2000. Livin’ like it’s 1987.

I don’t know where this kid got his RGB sweatshirt, but it’s the mullet that makes the ensemble.

Ecto-1 busts out some wings in London

Posted on June 8, 2008

The 2nd Annual Red Bull Flugtag London took place this passed weekend (there are other events around the world, but this is the second in London) as dozens of teams attempted to catch air with their homemade flying machines - few are aerodynamic, instead focusing on being more fun than functional. This year, a team launched what was essentially a fantastic looking cardboard Ecto-1 with a hang-glider on top - results were mixed, but hilarious. For a better look at the craft, click here.

The best 1min 27sec in cinema

Posted on June 7, 2008

There’s a new blog at CHUD, and the author’s opening salvo is outlining what he considers the best 1 minute and twenty-seven seconds in cinema history - I won’t tell you what it is, you can read that for yourself, but suffice to say that it exists in the middle of the best motion picture in cinema history (or at least, I think so. You’re likely to agree as well, if you’re here reading this.)

Return of the Ghostbusters cracks 3K on PC

Posted on May 22, 2008

By the time you read this, the most ambitious Ghostbusters fan film to date, Return of the Ghostbusters, will have been downloaded off the PC host servers 3000 times (imagine then how many times it’s been downloaded from all the other host servers and BitTorrent.)

And that’s not even the amazing part - the biggest downloading periods up until now were the movie’s initial month of release and December (which one would assume is because a lot of people are home for the holidays and have the time to watch) - but May has seen more downloads than those two earlier month combined. Which means that as the hype for the video game grows, and interest in Ghostbusters grows, more and more people will see RotGB! Congrats to Hank and the cast and crew - golf clap!

GB fan linked to Red Fly game style

Posted on May 21, 2008

Chad over at gb.net caught wind that Dapper Dan, who has been posting his awesome Ghostbuster art for years now (and is well known to readers of PC and Cereal Geek magazine), may be linked to the art style of the more “cartoonish” Wii and PS2 versions of the Ghostbusters video game. In his Deviant Art blog, he has posted an image comparing his art to the neutral pose shots of a 3D Ray from IGN.com.

He also mentioned he was contacted by the game developers at Sierra’s specific request in May of 2007, half a year before the rest of the world would even hear about a video game. His current concern is that his art style will go without credit and has contact the developers again, but without having seen the other three Ghostbusters or a copy of the game credits (which we won’t see until October) it’s hard to say how much or how little his style will be used, and what credit he will receive. That the developers contacted him at all is a great deal more respect than a lot of online artists are granted these days - we expect as fellow GB fans, Red Fly will do right by Dan. We’ll know more in the coming months.
