Aykroyd talk about video game, third movie, and wine

Posted on March 12, 2008

Sean Grady go the chance to conduct a video interview with Dan Aykroyd when he was recently in town to promote his line of wines. The interview was short, but Sean did get some good questions in and Dan gave some good answers back.

Weaver: No hope of Ghostbusters 3

Posted on February 26, 2008

Take a deep breath, Patrick.

In a recent interview with Premiere magazine, interviewer Ryan Stewart asked Sigourney Weaver about the possibility of a 3D animated Ghostbusters. Her answer, which he posted on his blog (presumably because it won’t be included in the final print interview) wasn’t encouraging for those looking forward to a little CGI ghost busting.

When I pointed out that the film industry’s renewed focus on next-gen 3D imagery and CG-rendered worlds means that perhaps a third Ghostbusters adventure is still feasible, Weaver looked at me a bit like I had just given her a toothache. She then took a big breath and said “Well, I just saw Ivan Reitman at this dinner, this lunch for his son, and, ummm, there’s no way.”

Ramis clarifies situation - GB3 not so much, video game, yes.

Posted on April 6, 2007

Attending the Vail Film Festival (where he won a career award), Harold Ramis was interviewed by the local paper, and was as you’d expect, instantly asked about a third Ghostbusters. Ramis confirmed that the live-action option with the original actors is “slim”, and that he and Aykroyd have discussed a CGI film with Columbia, making it a possibility, but far from confirmed.

However, he did back-up Aykroyd’s earlier comments about there being a video game.

Harold Ramis: [...] The only thing I know for sure is there is a video game coming out that Danny and I are going to do the voices for. So that’ll be fun.

CS: When will that happen?

HR: We haven’t recorded yet, but they’ve showed me all the animations for the game and the game settings and the characters. It’s all in the works now. I guess it’s a long development period on games and very expensive - they invest a lot of money in these things.

So, the video game is more than just Aykroyd hint dropping, both he and Ramis are providing voices (as you’d suspect, no mention of Bill Murray, but surprisingly also no mention of Ernie Hudson), and it’s already in the early production phase (which puts it in line with Aykroyd’s suggestion that it would be out in 2008.)

Gold star to Italian Raymond for the spot.

GB3 = video game

Posted on March 5, 2007

entrevue
I should learn to go with my first instinct - given how close together Dan Aykroyd was talking about GB3, a GB video game, and how GB3 would be CGI, I initially assumed that he might have meant GB3 would be a video game. After hearing him on the radio interview, I second quessed myself.

And now, I’m going back to my original supposition - according to more talk from Aykroyd, GB3 will be a video game.

[UPDATE]
Go to the 6 minute mark for Dan’s comments on Ghostbusters.

“More of a chance to see the video game in ‘08.”

Aykroyd expands on the rumours, suggesting that it is in production, and will be available in “all formats.” Though I doubt the all formats part, it’s certainly well understood that GB game needs to be on most major platforms to succeed as best possible. I run a GB website, and even I’m not prepared to buy a PS3 to play a GB game.

Aykroyd also talks GB3 - CGI?

Posted on February 2, 2007

Mike McGuire at CISN Country 103.9 in Edmonton got to interview Dan Aykroyd, who talked about GB3 as being in the talking stage, and the plan is for it to be CGI, sans Bill Murray and his likeness. So, some clarification is needed to make sense of these facts.

PART TWO IS THE GHOSTBUSTERS PORTION - however, the entire interview is great.

Thanks to Mike for the heads up - nice work man!

[UPDATE] Still working through the interview - it’s hard to listen while at work. But this is from Mike’s CISN blog post;

The hilight of the interview had to be when he confirmed that Ghostbusters III is in the works - albeit CGI, but Bill Murray has agreed to voice, so the authenticity (should) still be there!!!

Boy, aren’t Fridays like this exciting.

[UPDATE 2] Oh, and Mike. Stop sounding like me. Curse that Canadian twang.

[UPDATE 3] Nope, he’s talking about a movie. Seperate from the game. Still lots of details to fill in, and until a studio makes an announcement this isn’t official, but it’s very encouraging.

Transcript after the jump, thanks to Steve.

Various site stuff

Posted on January 22, 2007

Hi - time to bring people up to speed on a few things.

RSS
First off, when the site moved to its new state and format, anyone using the RSS feed link got left behind. I posted one last post, directing people to here, but it didn’t make it into the RSS feed, and as a result, a number of people thought I hadn’t updated the site since early December. I can understand this, as sometimes I really don’t update for a month. In any case, I’ve amended the old RSS feed (boy I hope it works now) and I’d like to direct anyone interested in the new feed to the RSS link on the sidebar.

Old News
If you’ll notice, the Old News page is gone, and a PC Features page now exists. This is because I’ve moved a large amount of that old news to the new format, including old features and interviews. There are still many more to go, but if you’ve never read the old material, please check it out - I even rescued some old materials from other, long dead websites (including a couple of keen GB RPG compaigns.)

Patrick
Every time I report on GB3, I get comments from Patrick. In particular, when I completely debunked the lazy, sensationalistic, and journalistically corrupt news wire story that made it sound like GB3 was being made and Ben Stiller would star, Patrick decided I was The Evil One. He continues to do so.

To All GB Fans!!!
Listen up!!! There will be a Ghostbusters 3 there are proof GB3 articles and Proof GB3 posters for 2008! GB3 is even on the news it said that Dan Aykroyd has written a new script and Ben Stiller WILL replace Bill Murray! Castewar is a jerk he has OLD GB3 news tell him straight there WILL be a GB3 in 2008! GB Fans had made some cool GB3 trailers too Check it out! PS. Why would someone makeup a false article about GB3 Castewar is a FRAUD about this not me or the GB Fans!

This seems like a good time to lay out a few facts.

PC isn’t here to report every scrap of information as fact. I report it at face value, and then in many cases I will apply my caveats - a simple example would be that I’ll never report that a GB game is in production until it’s actually in production. I will cover the attempt to get it into production however.

Similarly, I will not report every fan poster and off-handed remark about GB3 as proof that it is being made - it is not proof that it is being made, it is proof that there is still interest, either by the fans or certain filmmakers. And I’ve seen over ten years of this. I’ve seen a lot of stuff that really really really made it seem like a third movie was close - and it’s still not here. Even this last debacle, if you ignore my report that the news was bogus, it’s over a year old… and GB3 is not in production.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again one last time, for everyone to read, the minute someone credible says, “GB3 has been green-lit and begins filming next fall” I will report it, complete with “Woo-hoo!” in the headline. But until then, I will continue to report whatever comes along with a grain of salt.

Keep on keepin’ on, Patrick!

Aykroyd En Route article

Posted on January 3, 2007

En Route Nov.06Way back when, Dan Aykroyd was on TV talking GB3. The interview was conducted at the Ontario vinyard he owns a part of, for Air Canada’s En Route magazine. I then mentioned that the article would be out in November. Then I totally forgot about it. So, here you are. Better late than never, I reckon.

There is no GB content, it’s just an interesting read.

Reitman retains GB3 hope. Not a lot, but some.

Posted on July 18, 2006

While promoting his new movie, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, Reitman was inevitably asked about GB3. His reply was not encouraging, but at least it shows that if the monumental hoops involved could be jumped through, he would look forward to the chance to work with the co-stars again.

[Dan Aykroyd] has written a draft of something, but I think there are some sort of technical problems that have basically frozen the rights. We’re trying to do something about it now, but who knows? What makes me nostalgic for ‘Ghostbusters’ is to work with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis; that was the joy of working on ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Ghostbusters II. They’ve become old friends. That’s what you miss. It’s not staging a marshmallow man walking down Columbus Circle; that’s a pain in the ass. It’s much better getting [the actors] all in a room and doing something funny.”

Don’t get too excited - this is essentially a confirmation of common knowledge - that the rights to Ghostbusters are extremely complicated. And with Aykroyd and Ramis not currently interested in pushing to clear matters up, the movie remains a big “maybe.” Still, it’s nice to know that Reitman still has some fondness for the franchise.

We’ll assume he’d like to work with Ernie Hudson again as well.

Aykroyd sets the record straight - no GB3

Posted on May 31, 2006

Dan Aykroyd was briefly on CTV today, as eTalk Daily visited him on a photoshoot at his new Ontario vineyard (the photos will accompany a cover feature on Air Canada’s En Route magazine. The segment was short, but to the point. In just over one minute, Aykroyd confirmed that he’s shifting his focus away from acting into business ventures, that GB3 is not going to be made, and that all those reports and quotes about GB3, attributed to Harold Ramis, are false.

[UPDATE] There’s a YouTube version of the clip as well.
