IGN has an article on the Zootfly Ghostbusters game.
“We are very glad to see the overwhelming response to the Ghostbusters prototype movies. What you’ve seen is indeed in-game footage of early prototypes on the Xbox 360, running on ZootFly’s proprietary engine. Due to licensing issues, further development of the Ghostbusters game hit a bump on the road. But everybody here at ZootFly is working actively on resolving the challenges with the owners of the Ghostbusters IP.”
“Not to lose the momentum, a part the ZootFly team is currently working on an original game called TimeO, which is closely related to Ghostbusters. The game follows the adventures of two die-hard New Yorkers. They get trapped deep in the shadow world of a parallel New York. The city itself is a war machine threatening to wipe out our world and they have three days to stop it. As soon as the Ghostbusters IP issue is resolved, the whole team will go back to Ghostbusters.”
What that means is that they were hoping to secure the rights, but it has currently fallen through. If nothing else, it puts to rest all the party-poopers who cried, “cheap mod!” Big thanks to Nik for the link.

Ok, if this thing should pull through not only will i go out and Buy the Xbox 360, i will put a hold on warcraft to play this game for a while nonstop.
AWESOMENESS!!!!!!
i really am holding out hope that this will pull through and if they say something about the likeness rights, i say give them the 88mph Gb look as mentioned earlier.
That would be very nice as well.
sorry guys they were never even close to obtaining the rights. this was extremely hopeful on zoot’s part.
like writing GB3 and handing it to sony. sure you put a lot of work into it, but that means nothing.
Yes, that’s what I’ve said.
THIS IS ALL MURRAYS FAULT!!! Bill Murray is THE reason why NOTHING gets resolved in terms of liscensing!!! He holds one fifth of the GB liscense and is forever witholding when it comes to merchandising ANYTHING! Its a small wonder we got the NECA Figures at all!
That said however, I would myself purchase both system and game, even though I dont play video games. My only suggestion is that should the game ever see development, keep it true to the first movie, both in look and plot. Use the real Ecto, use the real packs, villains, ghosts, etc… Give Winston a mustache. PLease. Other than that, Ill be waiting with everyone else, intently.
The same stone in the road: likenesses rights.
Damn!
Actually, in this case, that’s likely not the issue, at least at this point (not to say it wouldn’t be an issue at some point.) Mainly, SCP isn’t interested in spend any time and effort on older properties, instead focusing on new, upcoming properties.
I dunno, it could be, but honestly if they took half a glimpse into how much cash such a game would rake in, they would go ahead with it. Which it looks like they already have…Im sticking to my guns with this being Murrays fault… Besides, how can they honestly use ‘old properties’ as an actual reason to NOT produce the game? We are lving in an entirely regurgitated culture right now! Especially one OBSESSED with the 80’s! Believe you me, there is plenty of interest in this game. I mean cmon… Consider who actuallys plays video games… Trekkies, DnDers, fanatsy freaks, computer nerds – geeks in the end- mainly guys between the ages of 10 and 40, many of whom remeber with fondness the franchise of Ghostbusters. And those who dont (im speaking to those sad younger souls who didnt grow up with Ghostbusters) What kid wouldnt want to blast his way through numerous slime drenched levels, where the final boss was a four way onslaught of villains, consisting of a bubble covered woman, two thrashing terror dogs, and a massive jovial marhsmellow man… If that doesnt sell, nothing will…
