No word on the GB/GB2 double-collectors set, or the collectors extras, but it’s nice to know it’s got a hard release date now (plus, it sounds like they are aiming to release it at the same time as the game, according to The Digital Bits.)
Thanks to Matthew for the heads up.

It sounds like its more or less the same as the previous incarnations of the DVD but with a few additional features that don’t really sound that tantalizing to be frank. The Picture-in-picture feature may be interesting but isn’t wowing me. The only thing that sounds interesting is the featurette about the Ecto 1.
Regardless this will be a must have if for no other reason than it being Ghostbusters on Blu-Ray.
New cast interviews, eh? Hopefully they’ll manage to get Hudson and Murray to sit down this time. More likely Ernie…
Is June 16th a worldwide release date? Anyone know the UK release date if not?
I’m feeling very underwhelmed but it’s not really surprising that there’s not a lot of new material. Obviously, if they do the GB1/GB2 giftpack, the GB2 release will be barebones. I wonder how the transfer(s) will be.
Well at least the BluRay transfer should be nice, no? The Ecto featurette sounds pretty cool too…I really really REALLY wish they would redesign the packaging better… I hate the green bubble treatment, and even more so, the “sketchbook” concept is ATROCIOUS… I’ll do it for FREE. Ya hear me SONY? All my efforts for FREEEEE… ha.
If only Blu-Ray wasn’t DVDs just called something else so people will buy all the same movies again…
Thankyou venkmaster! Blu-Ray’s… what a scam!
Man I love Blu-Ray..the picture looks especially amazing on an HD tv..like the Dark Knight..looked incredible and now I get to watch my favorite paranormal investigators and eliminators in blu-ray..I’m gonna lose alot of money on the 16th of June..picking up my 4 copies of the GB game ( yes 4..2 Wii, 1 ps3, 1 360) then getting the GB movies on blu-ray..2009 rocks already
Looks like I’m never going to be able to see the dleted Fort Detmerring scene! Disappointing overall!
oh man agreed, they NEED to put that scene in there! Its intact, we have the photos! And also the Louis/Slimer exchanges from GB2, they admit to having that footage, PUT IT ON THERE
I said it before and I’ll say it again: Blade Runner, not such a hit in its time, got a five disc treatment… I’m waiting for so much as a two-disc overdue special edition… That has to be the worse 25th anniversary edition next to Beetlejuice and Poltergeist… what an excuse for not doing their job properly… And me too I’d do the special fifty disc edition for free!!! So long as I’d get something to eat, sleep and wash. I’d do the set tomorrow if Sony would rely on the TRUE fans!
2009 will be a somewhat overrated year I can tell… but that’s just me, I wish I could be wrong… but still only one disc… come on guys, even movies that have made half of “Ghostbusters”‘ boxoffice got even more decent release…
Sony: a word of advice: deleted scenes (all the vault contains), interviews (same thing), FX (same again), etc. You get the point I hope… for the 150th anniversary I bet…
They could have at least recorded a new Directors Commentary with a couple of new people (like Dan and Ernie), because the one they’re putting out is 10 years old.
After all this time, they should include video of the building of the proton packs, traps, pke meter, ect. Now that would be something.
I’m not buying this until it’s in the bargain bin at Target.
I think a location then and now retrospective would be neat.
I just hope that the covers are the traditional black and logo, no the green slime one, i dont like that one very much.
With all the versions of this movie that they have published, you’d think they’d throw us a bone and give us a new commentary… I know that they would all very willingly do new commentaries, but Sony doesn’t want to pay them… And guys, GB was filmed 25 years ago. DVD is going to be as good as it gets, Blu Ray will add nothing!
J. Adalpe, I’m afraid it’s going to stay this way… and by the way, where is the usual studio’s pride and joy with a “25th Anniversary” mention? Not so proud Sony?
The green bubble thing is crap. Do the right thing!
The main Ghostbusters site got a make over…

Hey Charles it looks more like botox jaja check that ghost face..
I can’t wait for this Blu-ray, and discover Ghostbusters in High Definition with new features !
The only thing I hope is a new artwork, the green slime one is linked to the previous DVD release, so, I dream about this :

There’s LOTS of other footage that should be on the new DVDs and Blu-Rays. The freakin’ music video – hello?!? Not to mention all of the stuff from the laserdisc that never made it over to the DVD. And that’s not even including all of the EPK, deleted scenes, and other stuff that I *KNOW* is sitting in their vaults.
Considering that in the 2005 DVD re-release they actually REMOVED material that was present on the first DVD release, and didn’t add a damn thing, I have no faith that Sony would even care to add anything substantially NEW for the 25th anniversary. And you can bet that the DVD is getting far LESS than that! From what I understand, the DVDs will be a straight re-release of the 2005 set, but with a few new extras in the BOX (NOT on the disc).
What should we expect from a company that didn’t do much of anything with one of their biggest animated hit series. It took ANOTHER company to put out the entire The Real Ghostbusters series. Contrary to what they may claim, and the few bones they throw out to us every now and then, Sony does NOT care about the Ghostbusters franchise. They’ve proven that time and time again.
As Charles pointed out, Ghostbusters.com now redirects to the new Blu-Ray site. However, the old 1999 DVD site can still be found at:
