This is most a chat between Ain’t It Cool News and Harold Ramis, talking about his work, Year One, etc., but as expected talk turns to Ghostbusters 3, which is then entirely wasted by AICN asking the same questions as everyone else. However, they do manage to get Ramis to say what has been common knowledge, but overlooked by a lot of enthusiastic fans – Ghostbusters 3 has not begun production. This is important info, because the project could fall apart tomorrow, but everyone already has 2012 marked on their calendar. Thanks to Nevil for the link.
Capone: They’re still writing, okay. So, we’ve been hearing all sorts of wild casting rumors about younger…
HR: No, none of that’s real. There will be young ghostbusters, but no specific casting is real, and no director is committed.
Capone: And, for the four main cast members…
HR: Everyone said they’d be in it.
Capone: Okay, it’s strictly a verbal thing at this point?
HR: Yeah, because there’s no…The studio does not want to commit to us at this point. It’s very…When everyone says ‘yes’ that will trigger a very expensive deal for the powers that be.

Brandon, I find it funny how many of the Ghostbusters 2 naysayers complain about that film because it was basically a re-hash of the first one. Like you said, what do you think Ghostbusters 3 would be like with new Ghostbusters? ANOTHER REHASH OF THE FIRST ONE! They are clearly going to try to re-do the Hotel Sedgewick scene with shooting at the house keeping lady, and shooting all over a room and trashing it to catch their first ghost. Your probably gonna have one of the new Ghostbusters have a love interest that’s pretty much Dana rehashed from the first one. Seth Rogen will have a crush on another typical Judd Apatow castee, and it’ll be same old same old.
And for Jon, who says they need to take off their proton packs and say “Im getting too old for this”? Why would they have to do that, exactly? See, all the annoying fan skepticism almost dictates that they have to say that now, because your saying they should. Why don’t we all be supportive of them, and then there would be no reason to throw that into the script? This is what I loved about Rocky Balboa. All the same people who complaining and crackin jokes about Rocky being in a wheel chair, and Stallone made that movie and proved everybody wrong. He even made a point to say in the actual movie how he was tired of the jokes. Basically if everybody just left it alone, they would never put any lines in the scripts saying “Wow, were so old apparently. Look how old we are.”
Mills,
Read my comment more carefully. I was saying the precise opposite: that I would NOT want to see them say “I’m too old for this” or what have you in GB3. That would instantly ruin my childhood. If you are arguing that a 3rd movie should just have the original cast in their 60s still busting ghosts then I’m all for that as well. The problem though is I don’t think GB3 would attract much sustained new interest with 60 year old protagonists. Us lifelong fans would definately support it, but we have to be realistic here as far as what the studio wants and what younger ppl want to see.
