Ghostbusters 2 jab in The Big Bang Theory

I’ll admit I’m a late-coming fan to The Big Bang Theory – it’s kind of like Good Times for nerds. Funny and loving, but at a core level, a little demeaning. But hell, if they’re going to keep making stupid pop culture references I like, then I’m in.

Last night (@protoncharging Twitter followers would have known this 24 hours ago) the opening of the show managed to cram a giant hug for Ghostbusters, and funny dig at Ghostbusters 2, all in ten seconds and one joke, when the cast brings home a box of random yard sale stuff, only to find a “final draft Ghostbusters script with slime stain!… oh, you’re right it’s Ghostbusters 2, nevermind.”

Canadians can catch the episode on CTV’s website, and Americans can see a clip, which looks like it will include the scene, at CBS’s website.

Of course The Big Bang Theory writers are Ghostbusters fans… who isn’t?

Wave 3 Toys R Us exclusive Minimates available online

The Toys R Us website has listed their third wave of exclusive Ghostbusters Minimates – oddly, two pairs are Out Of Stock (not sure if they just haven’t come in stock yet, but I doubt they sold out already), but World of the Psychic Peter/Vigo and GB2 Egon/Titanic Captain are available.

Word is the Peter-Vigo set not only comes with Ira The Hairless Cat, but a slip-on demon face for Vigo – which means you can theoretically do possessed Ray too! Thanks John!

William Forsche GB2 images – confirms von Sydow role. Vigo-on-a-rope?

William Forsche, a name you might remember from his YouTube, behind-the-scenes videos of Ghostbusters 2, has a Facebook page, where he’s been posting behind-the-scenes stills from Ghostbusters 2! Score!

Vigo head sculpt
Statue of Liberty mask
Sculpting the mask
Testing Janosh’s carriage rig
Lifecasting Wilhelm von Homburg
Setting up Slimer suit
Slimer statue
Glen Eytchison/Pageant of the Masters’ Vigo painting (as you might recall)
Recreating the painting as a living piece
Dennis Muren and Wilhelm von Homburg setting up living painting

Besides all these awesome shots, Forsche also confirmed what was long taken as a given – that Max von Sydow did the voice for Vigo in GB2. Sydow has an unofficial credit in the GB2 IMDB listing and his appearance in the Ghostbusters video game served only to support that credit. Now Forsche has added to the story;

William Forsche
And poor Wilhelm von Homburg, it seems noone told him his voice was
replaced with Max von Sydow’s. He found out first hand at the screening
and soon after stormed out of the theater.
: (

In fact, the comments, where Glen Eytchison, William Forsche, and other GB2 effects guys all reply to questions about the photos, are filled with great info.

On Slimer;

Jason Barnett [Not Involved With Filming]
No offense to anyone, but design-sufferage. Any reason for not using the original molds/design?

William Forsche
No offense taken Jason, we all new this at the time but it was a studio corporate design committee forcing everyone to have it look more like the cartoon.

But the best is when Forsche admits that a 1/4 scale Vigo sculpt was re-purposed to make the actor, Wilhelm von Homburg, a one-of-a-kind soap-on-a-rope of his own head!

Big thanks to Ectofiend, who’s always digging up the primo stuff – one day, I will find him, eat his heart and thus gain his power… and collection of GB materials. And he knows I mean that in the nicest way possible. 🙂

Bill Murray on Letterman – CBS releases clip

Bill Murray is on Letterman tonight, apparently, and CBS has released a clip from the appearance, which includes his old anecdote about people catching him humming Ghostbusters on the streets of New York. He also describes GB3 as “his nightmare.” Take is you will.

I’m not putting much faith in AICN’s analysis of the taping, from someone who was in the audience, since people have a terrible time differentiating between the wants of the principles (Dan wants Eliza Dushku in the movie, Bill wants to be killed off, etc.) and the final Sony will (nothing moves ahead until everybody is happy, particularly Sony, who sign the cheques) – particularly as AICN’s spy also reports Bill doesn’t think they movie will get made, but it’s still a very big deal that Bill is talking about it on national late-night like this.

Tune into Letterman tonight to see the whole appearance, but it’s looking like all the GB3 stuff is in the clip above already.

Thanks to Eric/GB2Vigo for the heads-up.
