In case you’ve ever stared at their Back to the Future Delorean model and wondered; no, Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum cannot produce an Ecto-1, according to their license with Sony. This has come up a few times in the past, but it was confirmed today in the most recent Art Asylum Q&A. This is not a surprise, as this is something Sony likely keeps separate, allowing other companies, like Joyride, to produce their die-cast replicas.
At the same time, they haven’t entirely ruled out prop replicas – rather, they could make them, and they have thought about making them, but at this time, it’s just them thinking about it – no serious plans to date. Still, hope springs in turtles.
Will there be more Deloreans this year for bttf’s 25th anniversary and or surprises?:) Also, what about an ecto-1 car in 1/15th scale and a miniature for the minimates? There could even be two versions from both films. I think people really enjoy having different scales, not to mention that it leaves open the opportunity for 6 inch figs later. And for that matter why not an electronic prop replica of the proton pack ? Not only do you have the Ghost Buster license but you manufacture prop replicas…its totally obvious? With the newer film most likely Mattel will have the license and over simplify the toys due to mass production and moms groups who are concerned for their children. The same thing happened to dark knight resulting in crap like bola trap batman. I don’t believe that was in the film unless I fell asleep for thirty minutes, but I doubt it because the film was flippin awesome. So as you can see…. your our only hope. Thanks for reading all that. I appreciate it!
DSTChuck: Yes we do have another time machine planned, we’re calling it Rail Ready with the train tires. Ecto-1 vehicles are not currently allowed in our license. I have to be honest we have considered a proton pack or ghost trap replica but nothing is in the works.
Earlier the photos coming out of Toy Fair, showed a line of new Ghostbusters figures, with a Ray/Winston bubble 2-pack behind them. Later photos had the 2-pack moved, a title card added, and concept art for the lab coat Ghostbusters on display.
The title card confirms that the figures are Wave 4 and are due July ’10 – better yet, the concept art shows what the lab coat Ghostbusters come with for gadgets;
– Peter w/ video camera and hip video recorder
– Ray w/ gas sniffer and sniffing wand
– Egon w/ spectral analyzer colander AND stethoscope AND scientific calculator AND PKE meter!
Smart chappies will remember this is what the guys are sporting in their commercial shoot (which is the only time all three wore lab coats.)
Dana can be seen at the bottom of the poster, which shows that besides her grey dress (as seen in the figure) she’ll come with the blue overcoat she wore to see the guys for the first time (including the extra set of blue arms) – what isn’t clear is another item that is obscured. Purse?

More rolls in from Toy Fair 2010, as Diamond Select Toys is showing off new Ghostbusters Minimates, consisting of the boys in civvies and their commercial lab coats, along with an un-possessed Dana (not a lot of Winston, except in the two back in the background). GBFans.com is identifying them as Wave 4, which given their communications with DST I’ll believe.
Better still is a Slimer night-light, but the must-have item is clearly the neon Ghostbusters logo! No clear shots of their display cards, but the Slimer night-light has a release year of 2011 – for now, we’ll assume the neon sign is as well.
[UPDATE] GBFans has the neon sign as coming out late 2010-2011, with a SRP of $125. Also, the Minimates are due July 2010.
Some of the favorite figures from the first two waves of Ghostbusters Minimates from DST/Art Asylum, will be repackaged into new 2-packs for sale exclusively through Toys R Us! But, before you start complaining that they’re not new figures, you might want to look again. Louis and Slimer are both getting a bit of an upgrade, which will likely make their two packs highly sought after by collectors.
For those who missed out on the first 2 Ghostbusters Minimates waves, fear not, the boys are back in town and back in the aisles of Toys R Us. Composed of the best 2 packs from Ghostbusters Wave 1 and 2. (with a few tweaks), returning in time to catch you up before the next Ghostbusters’ waves hit stores.
The wave consists of Library Ghost and Egon, Slimed Peter and Slimer (Clear), Ray and Staypuft and Luis Tully with Slimer. As a bonus, the Clear Slimer coming with Slimed Peter now features the floating food deco, intended but unavailable in the previous release. Also due to popular request, Louis Tully now features the Ghostbusters Movie 2 accurate uniform with corrected name tag. Stay tuned as more 2″ full torso block shaped apparitions of your favorite Ghostbusters characters continue to materialize in toy aisles.
